    We were supposed to take the cable cars and cog wheel train to Alpspix and Zugspitz for Adrian's birthday but it snowed overnight and both mountains were covered in cloud. We had to come up with a plan B and found the very pretty town of Mittenwald was close by. The buildings in this part of Bavaria are painted with murals which is quite different to other areas.     ... Hohenschwangau first and enter at 9:50, after our 35 min guided tour we had to make our way to Neuschwanstein - downhill and up a very steep hill - by 12:05 precisely.     ... itinerary so it was nice to at least be so close that we could see it. As time ticked away we were even more grateful for the gifts from Olivier’s mother as it meant that we only had to stop for a quick toilet break as we already had our lunch.
