I totally forgot to mention two really neat parts of our day yesterday. So, here they are with some neat pics too!

First, during our walk along the city wall we found an exit with a long (and steep) path to the river valley below. From our B&B room we can see the cute village houses down there, so we figured we might as well check it out. For some reason we just keep choosing to walk up and down sleep hills and stairs! the 4:30am start was made bearable by the coffee and croissants as we boarded the Eurostar. Three trains later, (including two ICE's travelling a @ 240 kph much to Alex's delight) and 12 hours later we arrived in Nuremberg and met phil and Volker and picked up the cars to drive to Bayreuth. Dinner at our hotel was noisy as the ...

... and stained glass, still stands. It is beautiful. The most intricately carved altar is actually upstairs, behind a modern pipe organ. The church was cool on this 80 degree day, but we eventually moved on. We popped in and out of several shops, then were delightfully trapped by octogenarian Annaliese Friese in her shop. She and Rick Steves are great friends, as attested to by the many photos of the two of them in the shop over the years, ...
