The Cathedral took 632 years to complete. During the war, 90% of the central city was destroyed. Eau de cologne was originated here in 1709 by the Farina family. They have excavated the Jewish settlement a little more than on my last trip and plan to open an underground museum within 2 years. We visited 7 Christmas markets as the weather was nice. ... to a random collection of Latino and 80's music and we arrived at our hotel. The Mercure Severeinshof is a clean, comfortable friendly city centre hotel close to everything you need. An hour drive from Trier, we finally reached Koblenz. Got to see a piece of Berlin wall, had a typical German meal Schweinshaxe (Pork Knuckle with mashed potato and Sauerkraut) pair with a local beer! Yum! After our meal, we headed to the cruise port for an hour ride to explore the Rhine River.

I've been meaning to post this for a week, and just kept running out of time in which to do it. Here it is finally, complete with a nod to a 1937 children's novel.

Last Saturday was supposed to be a day trip - admittedly a long one, but a day trip nonetheless. I had planned to go to Bonn to see a photography exhibit, and stop in Cologne either on the way there, or the way back, or both, effectively killing two birds with ...
