Hotel Godin Montreal

Great hotel in great location

My problem with hotels in Montreal has always been location. The best have been in the downtown business district, which is increasingly untrendy, or in Vieux Montreal, a remote location that's too touristy by day and too sleepy by night. The Godin is a new high-design property on Sherbrooke and St. Laurent. For gourmands and shoppers, its within walking distance of the great restos and shops in the Plateau Montreal. For arts hounds, it's a block from the Place des Arts. For history buffs, yes, it's walking distance to the old town (via Chinatown). And for gays, it's a 10-minute stroll to the Village. Rooms are large, extremely functional, and very comfortable. In place of the never-used tub, baths have oversized, glassed-in showers. Windows are well soundproofed. And the staff is both gorgeous and helpful. My vote for best in the city.

Had an amazing time at Hotel Godin.

I absolutely loved this hotel. It was gorgeous, the staff was extremely friendly and attentive, and it's in an ideal location. Just one block from all the bars on St. Laurent that my boyfriend and I love to go to! I couldn't have had a better time. Everytime I go to Montreal, I usually like to stay in a different hotel. But I think my boyfriend and I will be staying at Hotel Godin everytime we come up from now on.

Absolutely dreamy

Stayed one wonderful night at the Hotel Godin in June when the Opera de Montreal was performing Carmen. Contemporary and modern, the Hotel is chic and unique and their staff is professional and friendly.

The room was spacious and their king size bed, fitted with 100% Egyptian cotton sheets, made for a very restful night's sleep. I highly recommend this hotel for your next stay in Montreal.

Great customer service after a sleepless night

spent 2 nights here during the Comedy festival. 1st of all - excellent location, trendy hotel, v.comfortable rooms with super beds and funky bathrooms; no hotel bar yet, despite what you may read elsewhere, as previously noted, restaurant only open for buffet breakfasts (outstanding croissants btw!)

Here's my interesting experience - my 1st night I'm out with friends late (I'm originally from Montreal), roll into bed around 3AM. 3:30 AM I'm awakened to very loud dance music (good beats though) and a very loud, raucous party. Call the front desk to enquire/complain - party continues to 7AM!! No sleep and in hindsight I should have just gotten dressed and joined in, as I said it was v.good music.

After 3 hours of sleep and a late breakfast I asked to speak with the manager about the party. Having traveled extensively I've learned that there is a professional method to complain, it's better to be polite and communicative than beligerent. Anyhow, the gentleman was very apologetic, explained that the partyers were in fact the organizers from the Comedy festival who had rented quite a number of rooms in the hotel. He immediately offered a reduced rate on my room and a change to another room. I thanked him for the discount but told him that the change of room was not necessary as I was unpacked and basically comfortable - as long as I could have a decent night's sleep, I was cool. He assured me that there would be no party that night.

I go out for the day, come back around 5PM only to be met by the assistant mgr - she is apologetic and warns me that in fact there is going to be another party that night. She has reserved a suite for me on another floor where I am guaranteed not to be disturbed - well, the suite was amazing!!

I could have moved into it and stayed for a few months.

Not only did they get me the suite, I am also told that they run a few restaurants down the street and I can bring a friend and have dinner on them...and what a dinner, just fantastic!

So, I am blown away by their customer service. I just wish that I had attended the first party!

Great Hotel, Great Staff, Great Location

Stayed here for 2 nights during Jazz Fest, you could hear the music from your hotel room. The rooms are great - beds very comfortable. Great products in the bathroom. The restaurant is not yet open but they have breakfast available for guests. The Staff very friendly and very helpful - a gentleman at the front desk recommended an excellent french bistro, L'Express on Saint Laurent which was very good - definitely make reservations. The Staff there also very friendly and helpful. Overall a great stay in a very nice and trendy hotel.

Great location, surprisingly good decor

a colleague and i held a function here and were very happy with the hotel all around. the staff were extreely friendly and eager to please although don't always understand "profesional" (they came into the meeting room in the middle of the presentation to refill coffee etc which was a bit distracting for those trying to pay attention).

the decor was better than i expected and I was pleased to read in the hotel guide about the reason for leaving the ceilings concrete. the only thing that imade this a problem is that there is insufficient wiring for wireless internet connection in the rooms (although we were able to borrow the staff computer for a few minutes to check an important email).

the breakfast was fresh and pleasant unlike many hotels i have stayed in.

would recommend this hotel to visitors of montreal.

Godin = tres chic

Pretty well all the boutique hotels in Montreal are in the "Old Port" - great if you want a romantic day or two - but if you want the true flavor of Montreal you have to spend your time on the Plateau (ST. LAurant; St. Denis, visit Mont Royal), so this new hotel puts you right where you really do want to be.

Very new (still no open restaurant or bar), very chic and oh sooo cool. Concrete ceilings, black and grey walls, awesome feather pillows and duvet - the most sound-proof room I've ever been in - never heard a sound. Attentive service if you want it - otherwise the staff just leaves you alone. Definitely worth a visit (we saved about 50$ off the rate by booking through bonjourquebec too = 188$ CND).

Godin / aka good in parts?

I spent 5 nights at the Godin in mid March, in a combination of suite and standard room. Decor and design in public spaces and the rooms are high quality but not revolutionary. I was left with a def impression of the hotel still being a soft launch but staff were eager to help. However, some did appear unfamiliar with systems, having to consult colleagues and supervisors. Admittedly, prices were discounted accordingly.

Neither the bar nor the restaurant were open; the former looked inviting but the restaurant space fronting Sherbrooke was bare. No indication was given of when it was due to open. The concierge was eager to send me to (good) restaurants (Globe, Buona Notte) on nearby St Laurent that were owned by the same group.

If revisiting Montreal, I would choose the hotel again because of it's location near St Laurent & St Denis; the other boutique hotels may currently have more amenities but I find that Vieux Montreal has little to offer.

From top to bottom a fantastic Hotel!

I have been in the hospitality industry for over 12 years and in that time I haven't stayed at a Hotel with as professionally friendly staff as the Godin. Not only that but the hotel is beautiful with it's architecture and chic-trendy decor. The rooms are spacious and comfortable yet on the high end of chic-class. When in Montreal I would stay here for sure!

Hotel Godin is Heaven. Definitely kicks the W's butt!

The Hotel Godin is a refreshing new addition to the Montreal boutique hotel scene. Reallly friendly staff, a great (included) breakfast, cool bar, and perfect location make this hotel hard to beat. The staff are so much more friendly than those at the W - a lot less pretentious and much more down to earth. Don't waste your time at the W which is expensive and so obviously a 'chain' hotel with no intimacy.
