Yet another near-death experience...

... my back before coming to rest some distance in front of me.

Amazingly I was completely pain free when everything came to a stop, I had survived a trip off the side of the WMDR unscathed... So obviously my first thought was to get get back on the bike before anyone saw me (crashing implies I have insufficient skill and is therefore humiliating for me). I dragged the bike back up to the road, but was too late as there was already an eyewitness to the aftermath, he just say ...

Goodbye Potosi

... mind. We had been planning to go back to Perigirapampa, and had created a presentation on handwashing for kids, including a song and play and coloring contest. But on the day we were supposed to go back, we got sick again, ugh. But we decided despite that, it was time to move on, so once we were mostly recovered, we came to La Paz. We arrived here this morning, very early. Spent a while looking for somewhere ...

The highest blah blah... La Paz

... than a metre away from a cliff with a 500m drop. The whole thing is downhill and the first 2 hours was paved road, and the other 3 hours on gravel road. Was one of the best things ive done. Ended up from 4600m to 1400m in the jungle. From freezing cold to stinking hot and humid. Finished at a hotel in the jungle with a swimming pool and a buffet lunch.

Will be coming back to La Paz after Cusco to do some volunteer work.
Back On Track??

... loads of other statues and carvings that completely blew me away. The sophistication was amazing. Well worth 70p. And now you too can enjoy the illicitly-taken photos!

Anyway, after a few hours of exploring the sites I had to head back to La Paz. All of this was done rather in a rush as I was worried about missing my bus to my weekend getaway. Yes, I decided to escape the big city for a couple of days to relax before the big game.

For that, read on to the next entry!
And in the Blue Corner....Yolanda!

... everything seemed just a touch off: the seats reclined, but mine was broken so wouldn´t stay that way, and there was a real bathroom, but the door wouldn´t stay closed (which Mel found out the hard way as we rounded a corner, flying into the aisle with her pants around her knees) and an included breakfast, although it turned out to be only chocolate Oreos and peach juice. The last 3 or 4 hours of the trip were on some of the roughest “road” we´ve ever ...

The bus gets even worse

... he had left and it was like he was playing a game of chicken!! And won. He forced both of the other buses off the road & into the gravel at a high speed. Our bus was shaking around and people were yelling at the driver. A local got up and ran to the front and started to scream at the driver. I couldnt understand a lot of what he was saying but I know he was speaking for us all.

AGAIN, AVOID ´´TITICACA BOLIVA´´ BUS COMPANY!!

At the ...

Laugh in the face of danger, or slide on my face!

... I took it fairly easy on this bit, it was especially unnerving because we had to travel on the right which was the edge side so were basically trying to keep a line about 3 feet from the edge of the cliff. We stopped then at a checkpoint where we had to buy tickets to enter the actual ¨Worlds Most Dangerous Road¨, where they took our names and next of kin etc. Then off we went, this part was much more interesting, narrow gravel road with a combination of tight hair pin ...

Bowler hats, lots of traffic and a few pasties

... in English. I didn't have any money at all, just the camera and the two USB sticks we use in my pocket, so I told him that He was very disappointed, and as I was walking back out of the office dave was coming in so I whispered they were after money. dave had already told them we didn't have any money just cards, so when they began searching him they pretended they were looking for 'contra' (drugs). one of them picked up our little leather purse with our small change ...

Lost in Transition

Well, where do I begin?

Around 48 hours ago I was sat on a cold hard bench in Manchester airport staring at a weird man razzing around on an automated floor cleaner, shining the life out of the floor like it was an army boot. It was about 1am and my brain had deteriorated to the level where I found myself questioning why he was doing this, in between wondering how entertaining a trip to the coke machine would be to pass some time. We eventually caught our flight at 6am to ...

A day off in La Paz

... the developed worlds involvement, good and bad. I don´t see it disappearing very soon after at least 4000 years of use.
La Paz is another city in a huge valley, the difference here is that it is the poor that live in the heights not the rich.
Thr streets are choked with buses, mini buses and taxis, 90% of the traffic must be public transport hardly moving.
