Casual start to the morning with a croissant and coffee for breakfast, followed by 6 hours walking around Old Town Genoa. The sights around the upper end are much better than the port, we sat on the steps of a church for half an hour and did some people watching.

Au Revoir Nice, back on the train again today, stay was too short. Train travel has been very easy and enjoyable so far apart from that one leg where it was very hot and stuffy.

Catch the Train from Nice Ville to Genova Piazza Principe on the Trenitalia Thello, had four seats to ourselves for most of the way. Travelled through Monte Carlo, San Remo and all along the coast to Genoa.

Monday August 3 We departed from Lesley and Jim off on our unplanned adventures. Firstly to Genova for one night and then onto cinque terre. First stop was the train station and as we had booked and picked up our tickets early that morning this was very straight forward. We boarded the train and found our seats without any dramas. ... think we explained ourselves successfully. We spent the evening getting to know our friends and researching the European ecoli epidemic. Don't worry-- so far we are ecoli-free. It's been a fair amount of time since I've been in Germany, and vegetables in Italy come almost entirely from Italy. But we have decided to avoid fresh tomatoes, cucumbers, and lettuce anyway.
