    ... and beautiful fruit being a lunchtime favourite.

    The la Perouse museum [he being born in Albi] was fascinating for us Aussies. Not only did we connect with his Australian visit which coincided with the first fleet, but we got an understanding of the bravado and skill they used to navigate a large part of the Pacific ocean for nearly 3 years.

    Leaving our hotel on the fringe of town, we made our way [somewhat circuitously!] to the very popular very old town of St Guilhem le Desert. This a gem of a place, set in a steep sided narrow valley. Towering above the lovely stone houses is a soaring, craggy pinnacle of rock topped with ruins of some ancient fortification. In the town square stands a huge old plane tree which is identified with a plaque stating that its girth in 1855 was 6 metres - think we got this right. As usual, ...

    ... pocket dials me a total of 17 times!!!! I stopped pulling the phone out to look after the first few times he called me when I could hear him talking to someone in the back ground but obviously not to me. His phone would hang up after a few minutes. I guess that walking down the hill would dial his phone to me and then hang up.

    It was a very, very, very steep hill going down in places and my knee wasn't happy at all ...
