... there would be no ride on the bike and definitely no ride on the cable car because Mont Blanc was shrouded in thick fog. So we spent the day wandering around looking in the shops and taking in the Chamonix sights. Lucky we brought our raincoats with us. The shops were mainly outdoor brand stores like North Face, Columbia and many others but we just looked rather than bought up big. The next day the sun was shining so we got up early and I ...
Xonrupt-Longemer to Friedrichshafen 170 miles France empty, Germany full. That was a hard, tense drive. But first, apologies to Guy in France. Yes indeed, that was Vosges. But that's still a good 200 miles from you and we had to turn left into Germany. At least we thought that was a good idea at the time... Being us, it's all a bit ad-hoc/make it up as you go along. Next was Friedrichshafen, where we wanted to see ...
... here, just in case you hadn't climbed enough already! The snow-capped mountains, impossibly green valleys, and milky rivers made for an amazing view. Since we hadn't brought any lunch with us, it was time to make our way down to the parking lot, by an alternate trail through the woods that was less steep, and head into town to find some nourishment.
We decided that since the weather was still gorgeous, we would take a cable car up another mountain ...
