... by the ancient Romans. Now, in Japan and Turkey and Hungary, baths are sex-segregated for the naked parts, but clothed for mixed-gender. Not so here...everyone's junk was out for all to see and holy **** was it weird. Especially with the combo of hot sauna; steam room, and cold dips. 'nuff saId. Anyway. My eyes are burning.

Tomorrow we are visiting the little towns on the Rhine for more neuer wine and pretzels. Then it's home on Monday!
Wiesbaden, Hesse, Germany sql_spice... the lift back down, we strolled through the town visiting various shops. I bought some gifts and found a pin. We stopped at a sidewalk café and had something to drink. Jack and Suzanne ordered hot chocolate. It took a long time to come and when the waitress was questioned she said “Because it made fresh.” It was worth the wait. It came on a platter with a pot of chocolate, cup & ...
Rüdesheim, Rhineland-Palatinate, Germany tucsonjohn... to a dual carriageway. The coaches are invariably full as they transfer folk from Hahn airport to Main airport as well as the city of Frankfurt, where we arrived at 11am. October is the month of many celebrations and festivals in Germany; we found one in the centre of Frankfurt which was about the farming community and its harvest, but not a Harvest Festival in the Religious form. Its main thrust was showing where food ...
Hahn, Rhineland-Palatinate, Germany madcaravanner... drenched by the time we got back, so needless to say it was time for another glass of wine!
Our last day we spent exploring our little town, which is just starting to close up for the winter months, not to mention its harvest season so everyone who actually lives there is busy more important things! We even ventured across the river to Kaub, another cute medieval town.
Then we boarded another train to head to the airport... and off to Barcelona!
Bacharach, Rhineland-Palatinate, Germany tommcatt... transportation barges and tourist boats. Almost all of the transportation barges carried a small car on their deck, although we weren't clear what its purpose was (drive around at the destination or drive back home?) It was also interesting to note that for much of the way, a railway line and road lined the river, sometimes on both sides. It seems as though this transportation route is a very well ...
Bingen am Rhein, Rhineland-Palatinate, Germany woodsfamily... sound like St. Goar isn’t that special, and the town itself isn’t. But the setting was oh so amazing. There was a walkway all along the river, with amazing views of two castles on the other side—Burg Katz fairly near upstream and Burg Maus kind of far away downstream. And then there was Rheinfels Castle, towering above St. Goar. It was mostly a ruin, but the largest castle on the Rhine, and it was quite impressive. Anyway, I found a place to sit where ...
Bacharach, Rhineland-Palatinate, Germany zolina... At every firework event about 50 large cruise boats shipping in thousands of spectators, and colorfully lit up with chains of lights from head to stern. Those who arrive by cruise boat also enjoy a dinner on the boat while gazing at the fireworks. Those who arrive by car, will have to first look for suitable parking space on the overcrowded river shore, if such can at all be ...
St. Goar, Rhineland-Palatinate, Germany reisender... the passage of time had allowed them to remain perfectly vertical. Towers leaned a little, and doors and floors were not quite in line. We saw one old building from the 1360's, stil used as a restaurant. It sat on the main square, looking exactly what I would have thought medieval Germany ought to look like. It even featured 14th century glass windows, from the days before window pane technology had been invented. The windows ...
Bacharach, Rhineland-Palatinate, Germany albertabrandts... How cool is that?!?!?!? It was a really cute castle and you could wander around and sit on the terrace and have a drink. However, no knights in shining armour - slightly disappointing. The hike up to it with my pack on wasn't so fun - I think that is one way to get fit do that for a week and you would be so fit!! So I walked around the town and I also wandered around the Rhine. It is just a beautiful area to hang out around.

The ...
Bacharach, Rhineland-Palatinate, Germany alanna.holloway... from the chilly wind. We walked around Boppard some, seeing some ancient Roman ruins- there are quite a few in the Rhine area- and a few things Mom remembered from her trip here with Dad in 2002. Then we went back to Bacharach, to the hotel and ate dinner at the hotel restaurant, which was serving white asparagus as a special. After dinner we called a few people on Skype and soon went to bed, since we were all worn out.
