... slices that, in our case, were truly medium rare. With this were traditionally prepared Tuscan potatoes: small golden potatoes quartered and roasted with butter and rosemary. This course would have made a fine meal in itself as well! Then, the "dolci," or sweets course. Out came a two tiered cart, with about 10 different options: chocolate cake, almond cake, orange cake, cake filled with cream and cherries and coated in chocolate, tiramisu, ...

We allowed ourselves to sleep in today. Our first appointment wasn't until after noon but, around 11, we were ready to venture out. We left the apartment and wandered through the Mercato Centrale food market (where I bought some Italian salt with herbs). And, it was a pity we weren't hungry yet, as all the food looked wonderful.

Continuing on our way, we arrived at the Galleria dell'Accademia, still too early for our 12:15 appointment. ...

... we would have the fortune to return to the city. We saw statues of Michelangelo, and went to the famous Ponte Vecchio bridge, which was just as adorable as one would imagine.

... yes, I'm going on the secret passages tour. I'm lucky because I happened upon this tour by chance during an internet search and booked it months before the book even was released. Who knew? Very cool !

Back to Florence ... I arrive at Palazzo Vecchio early, yeah! I admire David (the copy) on my way in the Palazzo. I briefly glance around at the statues in the outdoor portico and say a quick hello to Perseus who looks proud to be holding Medusa's severed head. ...
