        We have just come back from a lovely trip up to Lake Konigssee, and a boat trip down the lake to St Bartholoma. The lake is nestled between the mountains, and is 602m above sea level with an average depth of 150m. It is the cleanest lake in Germany, with the water being pure enough to be classified ...

        ... out of him at one stage.... even though he reckoned he didn't know the lyrics :) It was a fun tour - Wends and Lisa - you would have loved it ! and I'm sure you would have done yourselves proud during the sing-a-long bits - we were thinking about you :) Hope some of you die hard Julie Andrews fans recognise a few of the locations in the photos.... enjoy.... I'm off to watch the film again to spot some of the shots :) ...

However, we were able to visit part of the underground bunker system which was built between 1943 and 1945 and in its day was an extensive system of tunnels, corridors and staircases so that all the important buildings above ground were reachable and linked below ground. Nest now has a clear and unencumbered view of the entire valley now as it's all clear blue skies everywhere (grrrrr!), then at about 3pm, we started driving on the Deutsche Alpenstrasse: one of Germany's most beautiful roads and its first-ever tourist road (opened in 1927).         ... as he went. Must've had quite a night.

        We arrived at Salzburg Hfb and walked 15 minutes to the River Salzach. We stopped to cool off (forecast is 32 C today!) with iced coffees at the Primadonna Coffee Bar on the Platzl before heading to the old town center for our walking tour. A nice breeze was blowing, and it was comfortable in the shade.
