... such beautiful autumn colour; green, yellow, orange and red in the liquid amber, birch and oak trees. In the thick of the forest, on the side of the street, we saw a large stainless steel door embedded in to a rock face. Marcello later told us that the door was the entry to a 1000 bed hospital built back into the the mountain and fully equipped to manage any situation which might arise. Incredible and so unassuming! Maienfeld is picture perfect and also where Heidi was ...

We set off from Glottertal and the Black Forest on a grey sunday morning hoping for sunshine as we headed south, with a planned day spent in the town of Konstanz on the western shores of Lake Constance before heading to our hotel in Lindau on the other end. Lake Constance is huge, 64km long and 16km wide at it’s widest point. We arrived around 10.30 after a 2 hour drive along the winding roads, progressively seeing more sunshine as we went - and by the time we go ...

The two main foods we had were Käsespaetzle (cheezy pasta) and Germnödel for desert. Super yummy!

Walked back down to walk it off and then we hit the Rodel Bahn! This ...

Left Walch’s site feeling very pleased with the place.
Not cheap but everything was of highest quality and would definitely stay
again, summer or winter. From the power bill (10kW-hrs for two overnight stays,
excluding heating which was on LPG) , we must conclude that our fridge appears
to consume best part of 4KW-hrs per ...

Hello Austria

Lake Constance/Bodensee is clearly still in peak holiday
season and will remain so until the second week of September. German kids go
back to school around 10 September and this huge lake seems to be the nearest
seaside resort for the whole of south Germany. Therefore the area is very busy
with family holidaymakers.

Decided to move on, away from Bodensee and into Austria.
