After an exhausting trip we have arrived at our apartment in Zell and what a wonderful sight. We look out over the Mosel River at a very busy river moving vessels of all description and charming houses on the banks opposite. Well, we had a surprise yesterday when our home-stay hosts suggested we stay in Speyer an extra day. It seems the anticipated guests for the next weeks home-stay have faded away. That saved us an overnight in Frankfurt. So today we flew entirely without a flight-plan. We got up, had some coffee and toast and decided we should confirm train times to the Frankfurt Flughafen. We will have to be on a train out of Speyer no later than 12:00 noon. ...
Today is our 16th anniversary, pretty special to be in a castle in Germany to celebrate it. Makes up a bit for all the anniversaries in little country towns, quick trips to Maccas after a meeting for a McFlurry etc. We started the day by driving upstream to Traben - Trabach, a bigger town about 30mins away. Weren't sure what we would find, but as we drove into town what really stood out was a castle ...
... the organisers decided to have the hot laps for the sponsors at the same time plus some marching, brass band between them so it was chaotic! I felt so sorry for the bands because they were just drowned out by the cars as they were going around. Naughty, naughty!
I took a little look around before the race, but there wasn't too much to see that I hadn't seen before. The usual lines for food and drinks took forever and there ...
