... out it is the bringing down of the cows from the highland holiday. It's a big celebration. These mountains are so steep there is no way the cows could be way up there and keep their footing or find food on the slopes in the winter months.

Thursday 28 August

Moved on this morning, up the Pitztal valley, just south
of Imst. Went up to the Pitztal glacier, taking the Glacier Express(tunnel
train) followed Tyrol’s highest cable car to the restaurant at 3,440m, near the
top of the Wildspitze (3,774m). Perfect weather for a day in the snow – blue
skies and no wind.


Staying near Jerzens tonight. Had a great evening meal at
the campsite restaurant ...

and other consumption was fairly minimal in comparison. Their PC showed the

euro toll as it is a private road across the Silvretta Pass. Beautiful road up
to the pass, full of hairpins. Had lunch overlooking SIlvretta Stausee and then
walked around the lake/reservoir, and, at the southern end, on a little to gain
a wonderful view of Piz Buin (3312m) which straddles the Swiss border.
Thankfully the weather had brightened up by then but it was still chilly at
these altitudes.
