... drove back to Sehnde.

Martin barbecued five different meats for supper. shishkabob pork. turkey breast, pork and two types of bratwurst. Supper was excellent and filling. While it was being made Dave gave Ann and Melody a tour of the garden and Canal. Dave and Melody then picked raspberries. After supper we visited and then went to bed Arranging to get up earlier to go to church in the morning.

Absolutely wonderful day in Wer*****ode. This quintessential German town dates back to 1121 and sits at the base of the Harz Mountains. The quaint and vibrant buildings helped the city earn its nickname as the "colorful town of the Harz."

Our first stop was to the castle on the hill. I think Michael was trying to kill us…as we had to walk up the mountain to get there. You know you're out of shape when the old people ...

We set off for a campsite In the Thuringian forest, near Erfurt, with a planned detour to Clausthal-Zellerfeld. Dad had told us he'd taken mum there for a holiday when he was stationed in Hamelin many moons ago so we thought we'd "pop in".... Easier said than done! ... a walk down through the spa town. the gardens and flowerbeds were lovely. the main thoroughfare was pedestrianised, with lots of trees and a stream running down one side.
It reminded us both of somewhere we had visited before.... and then it came to us..... it is very like Zakopane in Poland! ...

... 1st class (thanks to Ben for organizing) and it is a real pleasure, The trains are comfortable and clean, and they serve food and drinks if you so desire.
