... over a 2-year period (i.e. less than 6 months!) - there are 120 rooms in the castle but only 20 have been finished - 2 days after his mysterious death at age 41 in a lake near Munich, all work on the castle was cancelled as his family didn't want to spend the money (hence the throne room has no throne!)   After the tour was over, we wandered back down the hill at a much more civilised pace, made our way through the forest & popped ...

Having spent a week on my mountain, it was time to do some longer and steeper walks again so it was back to Oberstdorf but this time avoiding waterfalls! Day 1 was spent on a flatter walk and on day 2 the only way was up! Although due to time constraints we came down by cable car which confused Lizzie! Surprisingly little ...

... what I suspected is true: a village had to be flooded when the dam was built, and this church tower is all that is left to the eye from this now underwater town. It seems both sad and poetic... The sun is setting as I reach my third village of Curon Venosta. Here I give into temptation, and opt for a warm bed again instead of camping out. It does seem to be a lot colder on this side of the mountain for some reason. And so ends a beautiful ...

... through the mountain, but it looks like it's my only choice. I back track a little just to see if the foot trail continues elsehwhere. There's a bus stop with a sign telling cyclist to stop and take a special shuttle bus with a trailer up through the tunnel. it says cyclist doesn't say anything about hikers... After coming this far, I would sure hate to have my hike interrupted. I hurry up the busy road, sometimes tunnels, sometimes one side opens ...
