... again for our Viking compatriots) in order to by-pass Koblenz. We called it quits in a little town of Urlay as we found a very nice and quiet pension on the river. Cochem would have been nice but it was crawling with those damn tourists LOL. The experience was wonderful and the town a delight. We were right in the heart of Mosel wine country and we did our best to sample some of their wares (post driving of course).

... the roads; good for us.

Today we played golf at the golf course on the base. The course was fine but I have to say it was a tad chilly this morning; -2C when we woke and rose to a giddy 4C when we started. But it did warm up and we had a nice round in the winter sun.

Tomorrow we head for France for our last stop before we go home.

Good morning everyone!

I hope this finds you all well. We certainly are.

We went to sleep last night with all the curtains open. When morning broke, we were no longer on the man-made canals/rivers of the Netherlands, but rather on the serpentine Rhine River Gorge surrounded by mountains. So most castles were owned by robber barons - greedy people who attacked and overcharged travelers who tried to get by without paying the tax imposed on them. From the castles, the robber barons had a good view of river and could shoot arrows to stop the boats to ensure getting the traders to pay their fees.

... lunch of chicken soup and rolls (brochen). After that we walked around the corner to check out SIM cards. Couldn't get that figured out so we continued on our planned walk around the town. This is a very lovely town with a small river that runs through it and salt water that comes up here naturally. They pump the water up to the top of these large walls covered with some kind of sticks and let the water create a mist that is great to breathe in. If it's not ...
