... or, just pretend we didnt notice the road closure sign. Considering that we had been cycling for several hours over countless hills, we opted for the latter.

It was a choice which did pay off for us. That being said, there were a few obstacles to deal with en route- particularly the two construction sites- which we had to carefully bypass!

There was no better feeling than appproaching Trier, though. I could sense Paul was feeling proud to enter back into his ...

Tuesday September 8. We left our Youth Hostel in Bad Honnef by 10:00 and headed down hill to get back to the Rhine and a ferry across to the west side. The day's ride worked out to 67 Km's of mostly beautiful cycling trail along side of the river. With just the occasional trip in land to go around industry. The day started out cool but did warm up and had us shedding layers. Much nicer than having to add. The high point of the day was coming to the junction of the Rhine ...

Trier is just lovely. 1 hour train trip from Luxembourg. The old city is just across from the train station. We started at Porta Negra, the only remaining gate to the city. It is an imposing structure. We late Breakfast a Bagel sisters. Relaxing atmosphere with wooden tables and chairs and a view over the garden courtyard. We walked through the Haptmarket, which has a lovely mix of buildings from different periods.

By the time I was toward the end of my second flight last night, heading toward Cologne, I wasn't feeling the best. It was warm on the plane, or maybe it was something I ate at dinner. Whatever it was, I was ready to be done flying. I needed fresh air. Customs was kind of a weird line without much structure, so ...

Castles and Bratwursts and Pictures, Oh My!

... taking wedding pictures, and I could completely understand why. The view over the sides was amazing. We could see neighboring towns and a river, which looked like a giant toy set from where we were standing. We saw the world's largest wine barrel and some of us climbed on top of it. It was huge! After that, we bid farewell to the castle and rode a bit on the Funicular(look it up!(:). Hot, sweaty, and tired, we trudged back to the castle and munched on a local bratwurst. It was ...
