If you pay close attention to the locations these posts are tagged in, you might notice that Osorno is not in Argentina. Pointing that out just now ruined the hint of irony that would have run through this whole post, but that's okay.

On the 4th morning in Pucón, we packed up, said goodbye to the terrorist, and went to the bus station to catch a bus to San Martín de los Andes, just across the Argentinian border from us. ...

... br> This road follows the Carretera Austral Route 7 and then turns off to follow Lago General Carrera until reaching the small town Chile Chico. It took us a good 2 days with a little bit of bad road thrown in but one of my favourite stretches of road on our journey...nay, in the world! Got to Osorno bus station and decided to go to the nearest internet cafe (after I could find some cash moneys) and figure out where to sleep. Found nothing, so went to Puerto Varas instead (looked prettier), this was after I payed CL$1200 for 2 little pies (way overpriced, but what was a newly arriving "gringo" to do)

Bus number 1 is to Osorno in Chile which means the usual kerfuffle with border police. Chilie are super strict about bringing things into the country! No fruit, veg, meat or diary products of any kind! You need to declare any wood and other things that you wouldn't even think you had! At the border the sniffer dogs were ...

... only one of them accepted us with the dogs. It's closed during the winter (April to October) for renovations but the owner is a really cool person and an animal lover so we were allowed to stay in the only room that is in a condition that allows guests to sleep in. Honestly Hostel Vermont is not the level of comfort and cleanliness that we are used to... but it is warm and dry inside (vs. wet ...
