... the Ducal Palace (though why she needs alcohol when she is so high on art remains a mystery!) and then returned to the hotel to relax and freshen up before dinner.
Tomorrow we move on to Parma (famous for its cheese) by way of a four hour taxi, bus and train trip. The actual travel time is much less than this, but of course you have to allow for connections etc. Meanwhile, enjoy the blog and the photos ...

The Ducal Palace is an impressive building near the top of one of the hills in Urbino and was closed for the New Year celebrations, so we set off hoping it was going to be opened today, but not really being sure. As we rounded the corner of the buildings we realised the door was open.....so today's itinerary was possible.

... a good menu of local dishes, and very reasonably priced: three courses, plus wine, dessert and coffee, came to 41.50, and could not have been faulted. We reckon on going back there tomorrow.
Speaking of which, that will be our last chance to visit the town's National Gallery, which has been closed for the holiday so far. Hopefully it will be open tomorrow, as it has several paintings by Joys boyfriends and it is in the beautiful and historic Ducal ...
... bill and aired our thanks for a wonderful dinner, we spent a while wondering around, watched the skaters on the open air ice rink and then took a small nightcap of grappa in our favourite bar, listening to the said band. Eventually at about one we headed back to the hotel to find that a bucket of ice containing a bottle of bubbly stuff and two glasses and some chocolates had been left in our room :-) well we couldn't let it go to waste!!
... enjoying stunning views and absurdly cheap wine. After a couple of hours, we had no real choice but to find the bus stop and return to the hotel where we had the best meal of the holiday. Our only real mistake was that we should have taken the bike up to the town so we could come back when we were ready. We went to bed with another country crossed off the list and another micro-state to visit the next day.
