      A little taste of Wales!

... We found our hostel (50% more expensive than expected; standard in Argentina) and settled in before exploring the town - not much to see really, although the main reason we are here is to visit nearby Welsh-settled town of Gaiman.

The following morning we did just that, taking a bus the 30 minutes west to the tiny little town. This town seemed a slightly bizarre blend of Wales and Argentina - we experienced a town which has siesta until at least 2pm, then closes ...

... I'm flying today from Ushuaia to Buenos Aires via Trelew and then continuing early tomorrow morning to Asuncion, Paraguay. I asked the agent at bag drop if I could check my large suitcase all the way through to ASU but he said that wasn’t possible for an overnight connection. He could only check it to EZE today and I’ll need to pick it up there, take it to my hotel, then recheck it again tomorrow. Ugh. That is a pain. ...

I was intending to go on Sunday but the guy raved about the weather forecast so much for Saturday that I gave in and signed up for the next day, it cost more than I expected but sounded amazing. After that I gave in and retreated back ...

Once we got to Trelew though a few things scuppered these plans....

      - it was very cold in Trelew. In fact it pretty much snowed for 3 days, proper blizzards. We even managed to make a snowman!

      - as it was cold and off season, nothing was really open. Desolate towns, closed tourist attractions, empty restaurants.

      - the wildlife was also on hols. No penguins (we were a month ...

... landed in 1865 – didn’t see Glyn’s name there but plenty of Jones, Thomas and Davies. We then visited a cool Eco centre and enjoyed tea and Bara Brith (Welsh cake) as well as learning about Whales, Dolphins etc. We left Puerto Madryn and drove to Trelew and onto the small Welsh village of Gaiman and as usual a great tourist information and another lovely cabin with terrible mosquitos and a mad puppy to play with. Enjoyed ...
