... buddies, had arrived from Philly and we were flying to Africa together. First stop: food! Especially since I had slept through dinner and drink service on my first flight and literally sat in my seat without moving for 8 hours. At least the girl two seats over was cute.

Next stop: Stopover in Khartoum!

This morning we rose somewhat slowly and a tad hungover but said our goodbyes to Andre and made our way back to Germany, towards Berlin. We decided not to go all the way to Berlin but stopped in a little village in a field pretty much, no facilities to speak of except for electricity. I had a nice cycle, did some cross stitch, watched the sunset and we had a nice quiet, early night to recover from last night!

It was a quiet drive from Berlin to Frankfurt...I think everyone was tired. Merry and I napped and read while the guys chatted in the front seat. Countryside was mostly farmland with some cattle grazing. Had a little drama finding the hotel at the airport as the airport does not allow prominent signage. After 3 or 4 loops we finally arrived at the Sheraton. We had a low key dinner at the hotel and went to bed early awaiting our flight ...

A quote from a very provincial German man, directed towards Renate, who then translated to us as soon as we were out of earshot (although it's not like he would know what we were saying.)

In the morning we rented kayaks and rowed down a small river for about three hours, enjoying the peaceful nature around us. Afterwards, to soothe our muscles, we headed to the spa down the road, where we enjoyed salt pools & saunas.

The next day we took a couple easy train rides up to Zermatt. It was rainy when we arrived so no sign of the mountains. We booked a nice hotel through the information center that cost only a few Euros more than the hostel. I was (unpleasantly) surprised at how much the town has grown and how commercial everything was since I last arrived with a backpack. Still, the church and graveyard were as pretty as ...
