    By the time we were leaving, it was raining harder. Instead of walking back, we took the funicular. It is the oldest funicular in Europe. It was built in 1879. We caught the boat back to Interlaken. I wanted to sample first class. My railpass allowed me to sit upstairs and be "pampered" by the attendant.     ... after our lunch, and there was a picnic bench with a great view. We both had to laugh about that.

We had taken a boat trip on this lake 40 years ago, partly because it was so beautiful and partly because it was free with our Eurail Passes. We asked, and the same was true today.     ... in a little town called Lauterbrunnen. We went on a lift that took us up into the mountains. From here we could see other little towns and houses all over the mountains and their waterfalls. At the bottom of the lift the elevation was 2,624 ft and at the top it was 4,875, so it got pretty high! It reminded me of the London eye but it was higher and it was going up and not around.
