      ... business venture. Heated carpets are just they sound like. You lay them down on your floor and plug them in. They emit a low level heat, just enough to keep your toes warm and provide heat from the bottom up in the same way that (wildly expensive and largely inaccessible to the masses) radiant floor heating does. Sadly, I can't bring mine back with me as the voltage here in Japan is lower than the US, but I'll be looking for one online when I return, I can guarantee it.

      ... parks full of weird statues and tourist kitsch. The first hell was Umi Jigoku or blue hell which looked very pretty in the bright sunlight with patches of pure white snow all around the place. I was disappointed that my camera battery ran out.       ... to be a snow plough as she pulled it and an ever increasing snowball behind her. The tram was still running and after a rather chilly few minutes wait we piled aboard. The journey to the station was very pretty especially over the river and the snow stopped as we moved towards the station. There is quite deep snow in many parts of the country today and there is some disruption to the train services. We are lucky to be going south as many northbound trains are cancelled. ...
