I was going to start this entry off by complaining about how things are starting to pick up again in preparation for final exams, and then I remembered that I'm about to start a 6 day weekend in Germany, visiting Rabea. So I guess I'll hold off on that one.......

In any case, worthy of mention....things HAVE picked up here. I've got three presentations, three papers, and two tests to get ready for over the next ...

... them eat. They watched my host mom and I like hawks....emulating our every move. They wouldn't start eating until we both did. They didn't use their fingers for anything we didn't...they wouldn't even pour their own water without seeing us do it first. There was some sort of overlying fear that they'd so something intensely offensive, and be cast out of the house to live on the street. A somewhat irrational fear in retrospect ...

... we've gotten some odd looks) and finding free, weird things to attend (presentations about gypsies in film). Also a random sampling of street vendors, and a fair amount of window shopping (something that Spaniards have mastered...and it's no wonder...with siesta in there they don't have that much time to actually shop IN the store).

... around a while for lab work to come back. My grammar professor had to take off to teach another class, so she was replaced by the director of the program that I'm in who got me through all the paperwork.

Around 2pm, I got put in a bed and hooked up to my IV (by a 17 year old, no less). From there, things moved pretty fast. I got taken up to the inpatient area of the hospital, where another one of my professors, the directors nephew, my host mom and ...

... however, was the boost of confidence in my language skills. Jessica's parents don't really speak any Spanish, and our host mom doesn't speak any English, so we spent the whole 2 hours translating in between the two so that everyone could talk and understand each other. I'm sure a few of our translations were a little different, but for the most part...everyone understood pretty easily. Our host mom also told Jessica's parents about how ...

... I watched a group of 20-some year old American guys walk through the courtyard, yelling about how boring the church was. One of them exclaimed, “I swear to [expletive]ing God, if I have to look at another [expletive]ing church I’m going to [expletive]ing blow my brains out. Can we please just go to the god [expletive] bars?” This was outside of one of the city’s oldest and most well respected churches, in a crowded courtyard ...

... be a study weekend. We've got two big tests next week right before leaving for Rome. I hate the first tests of the year. I never know what to expect.

It was at least nice to get a better understanding of what the city is like. Now we're just back at the apartment..."borrowing" some more internet. It's always a good day when we can pick up a signal here.

... What did we do? Well we slept late, got up, had some more Chinese food for lunch, watched lots of TV, and then went dancing a little...good times. Segovia is this weekend, however.
