This morning we set off for a little beach just outside Chania for a few hours of relaxation before a late lunch at Johnny's aunt's house. Lunch was in the village, and again under a beautiful canopy of grape vines that kept you very cool and comfortable. ... the day started off with a twist as our first of three trains was cancelled. Asking a kindly ticket attendant for help, we were directed to jump on the train to Westbury. The journey progressed much in the same way, as we went from Westbury to Reading, Reading to Redhill and finally arrived at Gatwick with little time to spare before our flights. ... didn't work out. The ferry took us past a couple of the stopping off at a beautiful one in a crescent shaped bay with all the white washed buildings lining the beach. We got off at the second village stop where we boarded a bus back to Chania. But to get back into the mountains and off the coast we went through more switchbacks. It's mainly limestone not volcanic, and the small shrubs/vegetation looks more like the leeward side of the island. I've been told there's more of a rainy season here rather than a true rainy side of the island. Elafonisi is a pink sand beach with crystal clear water and all sorts of shades of blue.
