We continued on the roadbook without too much of a problem, driving through some really pretty towns and villages. We stopped at a post office, to get stamps, just in case the postcard shops didn't sell them. The change we got in Liechtenstein came in handy here! The route took us into a small town which had a Subaru dealer, so we stopped for a few bingo card photos. As we drove away from there, we saw a ...
Landquart, Switzerland dirtyweekenders... me that it was very painful. 'Well that doesn't matter' I replied, 'They are for him!!' Of course the other half of the team was blissfully unaware of his forthcoming pain until the cuffs were snapped on, and the policeman took a good grip on the handcuffs ready for the photo!!
What a coup, we could hardly believe it.
So out of Vaduz, and travelling on to Switzerland.
Our third stop of the day was our first in Austria. Now I was entering undiscovered lands! Feldkirch is right on the Switzerland border. The old town centre is surrounded by towers, and a castle sits on a hill above.
We explored Feldkirch and a few of its towers. The old town is quite charming with its colorful buildings, trickling fountains, and small shops. When we tried to ...
... backpack and not have gone with my old Migros backpack, which hurt me only after a few minutes.
But I saw definitely also my wakepoints that I will have at the choquequirao Trek: my damn Knees, that hurt me a lot when I came home. But anyway I want try this Trek to see the ruins before there are so may tourists as in Machu Picchu.
Only one thing we forgot: A swiss armyknife! Everywhere it had "Silberdisteln" and I remembered how I ate them when I ...
... city (commune in Switzerland; they don't have the equivalent of counties, the next level of government is Canton, equivalent to our state) governement of Chur is a little different than Olathe's; they have three full-time politicians and a parliament of 21 (I think that's right).
We toured Chur, which is a beautiful city. I'm only posting a few pictures now, as the upload speed here is a little slow. I'll post more pictures later.
... really well. The match was sooo intense, and we were literally at the edge of our seats wondering which team would win the spot in the final on Sunday. For a while, the score was tied at 2-2 and I was certain that the game time would be extended for 30 minutes, and the possibility of a shoot out (ok I think that is a hockey term, but I am still new at this). But with only a couple of minutes left in the game, Germany made a goal, and won ...
Chur, Swiss Alps, Switzerland collanya... the Hotel's quite firm beds. We had to make the beds less firm by adding a duvet each, under rather than over us!
We awoke early the next morning as our itinery had us catching an early train for Poschiavo. The Bernina Express no less!
From Chur Station the Bernina Express took a different route that the one we travelled on the day before. Noticably a much narrower gauge track, but the carriage was no more narrow, and the seating was firm but comfortable ...
... his mark on the district by designing and constructing Kerri Kerri's public loo. ] I bought a book on his works and was amazed at how busy he had been with all his projects...mostly in Europe. We bought postcards, a cup of coffee and a cake each. St Gallen was our next destination where we were determined to find the Benedictine Abbey and its world famous library. But we could not find it. We drove up and around that town trying to track it down. How hard could it be we thought ...
Chur, Switzerland brianc... spoil myself at least once. 1st Class travel is an interesting dilemma of value for money. In the case of the Glacier Express the only additional "service" was audio announcements of points of interest along the route. (What would have been nice was a full audio guide). Even the windows did not have to be panoramic. However the spaciousness, airyness, and brightness of the large windows made the 1st class trip worthwhile ...
