Arrived safely in Kuala Lumpur and setting up camp at Hotel Fortuna - 87 Jalan Berangan, 50200 Kuala Lumpur, Tel 21419111 http://www.fortunakl.com We spent 4 nights in KL, which would become our hub for exploring Malaysia. The train from Singapore was quite comfortable, but did stop at every town on the way in (except for the one where we were supposed to pass through some type of border crossing check). From the train window, we could see miles and miles of palm trees. At first it was quite ...
Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia gojoadventuresStayed at Fortuna Hotel again, but this time met up with a good friend's sister, Pek Chin, for a personal tour of the hidden gems of KL. Back in Kuala Lumpur, we met up with Pek Chin, the older sister of our friend from Ottawa, Pek Lee. We met her and some of her friends over drinks and dinner, and got some great tips for our upcoming visits to Borneo and Thailand. The next day, our personal tour guide, Pek, treated us to a fabulous market/street stall breakfast, where the food is the freshes...
Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia gojoadventuresWow, the last day and a half have been an interesting whirlwind, to say the least. I now sit in my living room, at home in Vancouver, up since 5am. I did want to make sure I completed this travel blog... so here we go. Day 9... to Kuala Lumpur This morning, we had half a day to kill before we had to be at the airport. The hotel breakfasts thus far have been spectacular! In both the Bangkok hotel and here, there has been ridiculous variety and quality of foods... for a breakfast! With so much ...
Kuala Lumpur, Wilayah Persekutuan, Malaysia jasonlewDay 10 This morning, we were up early and ready to go. We had big plans today... first stop, Petronas Towers. Quick skytrain ride, short walk, a stop in for an overly-priced ice-coffee, and we were there. I'm not too sure the historical significance of the Petronas towers (if there is any), but they were enormous... and pretty impressive. The upper floors were all office buildings for the Petronas gas company, but the bottom 6 floors were all shopping mall... with a luxurious store from proba...
Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia jasonlewDay 11 Today, we were out of the hotel by 10am. In the first example of the Lonely Planet letting us down, we headed out to find the Pudu Market. It was described quite favourably in the book, raving about the energy of the market, with fresh produce and squawking poultry. We should've known when we stepped out of the skytrain exit. The area of relatively run-down, at least compared to the metropolitan area we had seen until now. Most of the shops were either small and dirty moto repair shops...
Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia jasonlewAfter a very boring 5 hour bus ride from Singapore to Kuala Lumpur, I departed the bus right across the street from the Petronas Towers. They are one of the main reasons that I came to Southest Asia in the first place. They are spectacular to behold in person. After another short day thanks to jetlag, I found myself awake at 2 am. I decided to go outside and have a look around and try to get a glimpse of the towers at night but I didn't have a good location to see them. I started to head down...

... nevertheless. The ticket for the Tower included several other options, including a donkey ride (!). Passing on this one, we did, however, opt for going in to see the captive animals, although this was somewhat shortlived due to the large number of snakes on view. Full advantage was taken, though, of the final portion of our ticket - an F1 simulation drive -bit of a glorified computer game if the truth be known, but fun nevertheless.
The next ...

Got very lost and confused in the biggest shopping centre in the world. Was not humanly possible to cover in a day, so had to go back the next day. Everything is so cheap! Today we went to Little India and got harassed by every shop keeper. All the women were wearing head scarfs. Wonder how they eat.
... to not be awesome. We dipped the roti into mild fish, chicken and lentil curries to cut the sweetness with some savory, hearty goodness, and generally made a mess. We hadn't intended on playing with our food on the trip, but the appearance of the roti tisu proved too tempting.
Can you blame us, though? If you can look at this particular item of food ...
... are sometimes closed. I walked up the stairs, one by one, watching the monkey jump on the railings and fences next to me. Monkeys are literally everywhere here in Asia! After making it to the top, I looked a few little temples in the crevices of the cave. I saw the sign for the "Main Temple," and noticed that it was closed. I found out there was a holiday the day before (of course), so a ton of things were shut down. I saw a few cool things though and then made my way back ...
