Pam's Visit: City #2 Thanksgiving!!

... the Hauptbahnhof. We took the train to Wolfsburg to catch the ICE to Berlin. The trains can travel 125 mph on conventional tracks and 174 mph on high-speed tracks, it was like riding in an airplane it was so fast!! The ride to Berlin only took 1 hour! Then we had to find our Hostel which took a while since it was a 10 minute walk from the Ostbahnhof train station in Berlin.

Pam's Visit: City #2 Day 1

We headed to the Hamburg Hauptbahnhof to get tickets back to Braunshweig. We stopped in Hannover for 1 hour and we quickly walked through some of the shopping section. We were tired when we finally arrived so we hung out in my room for a while just relaxing. We hung out with all of the URI students in Weststadt and it was a lot of fun.

"Wetten, dass?"

... time we got there (after going inside to get some ice cream) it was around 7:30 and people were already lining up to see the show filmed. They had a stage set up and fences for the dancing area. We weren’t dressed up so we just watched, but it was hard since Germans are so tall! There was a small screen that streamed the show from the VW Halle but it was still far away. My camera worked great since I could hold it up and still see the picture. They tried to pump up the ...

Halloween in Germany!!

... yet. They think it is still for vampires and gross skin conditions. There was a live band for a while which was good but a bunch of us left after that to catch the bus. Then a bunch of us stopped by the Schloss to get Doeners at Beyti which were amazing.
A Doener is a sandwhich type food with lamb or chicken in a pita topped with different types of slaw, and vegetables and 4 types of sauce.

Nature Walk with Wendy

... some fun. We wrote our names down on index cards and then we were put on random teams for 15 mintue games. All the players on each winning team got a shinny ribbon and whoever collected the most ribbons won a prize. We didn't realize that the tournament lasted from 8:30pm -6am!!! So we left around 11. It was a lot of fun, but some of the Germans were very intense and I had no idea what they were telling me to do sometimes!

Graduation

Today we graduated from Summer School yaay! We had a mini ceremony where we received our papers saying the hours we completed and our grades. The teachers each gave a small speech but at least it was fairly short. I passed and got 6 credits towards my German major ...

Volkswagen

Fun trip to VW plant in Wolfsburg. We took the Deutschen Bahn at the Hauptbahnhof for free since we are students. It was a short trip, only 25 minutes to the plant which is next to a canal for transportation purposes. We got a fantastic tour of the plant in cool cars that made it feel like an amusement park ride.

Our tour guide was from Nottingham which was funny. We got to see the entire ...

mini Dorf trip

... part of the village and went to eat, ate a Döner box. Then we walked to the Herzog-August-Biblothek and Lessinghaus for a tour by Librarians. It was very interesting and you could tell that these Women knew so much since they are surounded by books all day everyday. Then we took the bus back to Braunschweig. The village was easy to get to and I would definitely go back!

Fischers Fritz fischt frische Fische...

... and everything!

The fish was smoked and soo good, but we had to pick out a lot of the bones but it was excellent. We ate it on German bread with butter and of course beer. They had a dog and a huge pig in their back yard which was in the middle of the woods. Then they showed us where they store the fish and chop them up, eww! It was a pretty decent day all around.

Germanic Football is NO JOKE

... bleachers with at least another 500-1000 milling around, standing watching the game. This was a great venue. You could feel our guys a bit intimidated in warm ups, as they had twice as many guys, numerous coaches, as one of my offensive lineman Manuel put it, "a real team." My left tackle Ciro told me that his end looked big and quick and to "watch my back." Just what I wanted to hear from the guy who is supposed to be protecting my backside. Manuel also ...
