... good modern art museum. We didn't really appreciate some of the modern art, but the "swimming pool" which is an underground room with an open air transparent roof covered by a few inches of water. Very clever. ... no way to get to this village. We had lunch there and then drove 1hr to Kanazawa where will stay the night. Walked to a Shinto shrine & to the Castle, Annette, Nat & myself sat overlooking a beautiful garden while the boys climbed the steps to the castle. ... in the mountains we started to see snow in increasing amounts from snow piles roadside to flat farming land with remnants of the winter's activity. We visited the folk village in Shirakawa-go that is made up of A-frame buildings with steep thatched roofs made of rush grass that is 18 cm thick.
