    Decide to walk along the river into Lucca. Had a coffee & sustenance in the Colosseum before hiring a fun bike for the four of us to ride around the walls of Lucca.     ... left after the meal the chef asked if I would like to stay for coffee, so we chatted about life her boys and cooking.the afternoon quickly filled and I had yet to drive to my b&b at lucca some 4 hours away.     ... tunnel into town, then followed Rick Steve's suggested walking tour (but backwards). It was the perfect day, warm but not too hot, and everywhere we turned there was something new to see. We explored San Giovanni church, situated above the town with a lovely view toward the ocean, then walked the meandering streets to an overlook where we could look down on the train station and the (closed) Via dell'Amore.

    ... of travel, we were all pretty wrecked which didn't help the situation. But the bar consisted of 2 Contiki groups, as well as another random group of people, and there was one stage with a weird old guy organising the music, and a choice of about 100 songs from roughly 1970-2005.     ... you would have to buy a coffee or water from the place or they won't let you use the toilet. I didn't find this. Perhaps the fact I was obviously trying to make an effort to ask in Italian, despite not doing it so well, worked in my favour? I am finding it relatively easy to understand basic Italian, as it is so like French. I am trying out new expressions that I pick up here and there every day.
