Turns out it's a bell tower

... roofing (which was made of lead) melted and slid down parts of the wall, wrecking parts of the painting. There's a museum space with some recovered/reconstructed frescoes (some of which are kind of scary) and a video that shows the restoration process. I guess the reason I liked the building so much was all the beautiful shadows and lines from the bright sunny blue day and the thin columns. It was so peaceful.
So yeah, Pisa: more than just the leaning tower.

and quite beautiful. Still not the same transparency and blueness as the
water in Fiji at Beachcomber Island, but still quite pristine. We loved
it. Simon got back out and I stayed in for a bit. There wasn't
really anywhere to stand so you did the while "ride a bike" in the water
thing to stay afloat. Eventually I thought I should get out - so

We finally got in a taxi at just before 11, said 15 minute ride! Cutting it fine!!
Welcome to Italian traffic! It is so weird driving on the right!!!
Suppose this way we got to see some of Genova through a taxi window!

We arrived at the train station at 11.10!! Shiiiit.
It was only 14 euros for the taxi, 7 each - pretty good considering we would've missed the train otherwise!

We had a great lunch at Gambero Rosso which was on the seafront, a feast of fried anchovies and seafood washed down with some Cinque Terre wine. The restaurant showed pictures of their restaurant after the flood where the mud came up to ...

      ... not there…surprise, surprise.

We had planned to eat at the ‘Ristorante di Buono Gusti’ (the one with only 4 tables) tonight depending on what time they came back and how we all felt. During the day we didn’t have lunch and we relaxed over a good book and our company.

As it was getting closer to 6.30 I realized that even though Mary had shown them how to get from Lucca to Cinque Terre and return…we didn’t show them how to get ...
