We have now learnt two things about the weather in this part of Italy- it knows how to be hot and it knows how to rain.
We managed to get under way soon after 08:00. The first part of the ride was on nice quiet roads through lovely countryside up to a little way beyond the lovely hilltop village of San Gimignano. We had an elevenses stop of spinach tortillas at San Gimignano.

Maybe I should have taken the tourist office's warnings about it being strenuous more seriously, thank God I brought tennis shoes! The tour ended with a boat ride along the coast back from the last village of the five to the first, and by that time we were all exhausted from a day full of hiking and so ready to get back onto the bus. I think I slept the entire ride home. ...

... see us as we were to see her.

She is looking so well…she looked really strong and fit but she did let us know that she is back in hospital in a couple of weeks fo rmore heart surgery. Scary…but apparently this is the best case scenario to fix up her heart once and for all. So she is very upbeat about it and wants to get it done as soon as possible and back on the straight and narrow.

We only had about 5 hours in Milan before our train home so we ...
