      ... of the day. there was the occasional lull and this enabled me to get about on foot and see the town; There are lots of little backstreets and alleyways where you could get out of the weather. Not many people around as their shoulder season doesn't commence until this weekend. That suits me though as I don't do crowds anymore.

      ... hike through 2.5 miles of steep nordic-walking paths to the peak of Yberg, arriving at 6:30 to a man shouting at us in German. It turns out he speaks English and was saying he closes in 5 to 10 minutes.       On Friday morning, I called the Stuttgart tourist information office to inquire whether or not the tours would be held today since it was a holiday--Tag der Deutschen Einheit (Day of German Unification)--the 24th anniversary of the reunification of Germany.       Today was largely spent at the Mercedes factory. Upon arrival you are welcomed and your bags taken to storage. You sign a form, get some breakfast that they provide (cinnamon rolls, giant pretzels, juices, coffees, etc.). You then have time to wander through the exhibit and store.
