... suddenly we went into a tunnel and came out the other side in this huge gorge surrounded by craggy cliffs. There is really only one building when you get there, and it’s a weird stark looking thing with a church in the middle and a hotel and a hostel around it. There were some lovely hikes around it so I had a good old yomp before returning on the train.

... thing was that there was gafitti in the cave made by modern explorers, from the 1600's to the 1800's, who discovered the prehistoric paintings but did not realize that they were as old as they are. ... and becomes only marginally easier towards the top, and all the while you have plenty of time look at the mountainous walls surrounding you and wonder just where in the heck the col could be. Of course it eventually appeared (after the road swung way over to what seemed like the other side of the valley), and for the first time this trip there were no others at the top when I arrived.

... good so we all agreed. The innkeeper asked us if we wouldn't mind making our choices early so that they could start preparing and we had no problem with that. Once we sat down at 7:45pm, the food came from the kicthen quickly. I had the refreshing seafood salad, the delicious white fish main course, and one hell of a nice chocolate mousse cake for dessert.
