    Late this morning, after we had packed the car and given up hope of visiting Patrick (Paddy) Leigh Fermor's house, Mary got a call with the green light from the Benaki Museum in Athens. We walked there (half a mile along a public path) and were greeted by Elpida, supervisor of the house and Paddy's caretaker during the last 7 years of his long life. She showed us around (no photos inside) and told great strides with great affection for her old boss. ...

    ... stop at Ancient Sparta. Karavas really didn't want to go to Sparta. I think he wanted to have lunch, get on the bus, and head off to Kalamata, where we were spending the night. So he totally downplayed Sparta for our group, saying that there was really nothing left at the site and what was left was Roman. One student was like "Be real with me. Is it worth it?"     ... br> Thus the entire journey still took about 5 hours ( just as in the old pre-motorway days, and I arrived in Methoni at around 3.30 pm.

    After settling into my accommodation, I needed to shop for food and make the rounds to greet friends and acquaintances I had not seen since March.

    Finally, a walk up past the castle in the early evening, to watch the sun set, and later, to a traditional taverna for an evening meal.

    ... drive after relaxing at the home and doing laundry. After our drive Haylee got sick again so we just hung out at home for the rest of the evening.     ... but when the little boy turned a corner the baby almost fell but was propped up by the boy on the bike. Yikes!!! What a strange site! I am told they have children services here but if I get a chance I am going to ask how they handle the traveling gypsy families.
