Beware The Savage View, From 1982

... at the top of Misen, to the jagged ridge leading to Tengudake.

Most of the way across, there were fairly well defined, though narrow, paths, but there were a few places where you literally had to hug the rock to get across. The surprising thing to me was how long the ridge is. It doesn't look far from Misen, but it really is. Before Tengudake, there is another point you must first reach and after it there are several more, going on, seemingly forever. We ...

Kochi: Rainy Festival Season

Left the horrifying business hotel early and managed to take a quick tour of Okayama castle (so-so) and one of Japan's 3 greatest gardens, korakuen. The garden is rather English in that it's sculpted around grassy expanses. Everything has its own corner, but I rather dislike the avenue approach to gardens. The work that went into making the garden neat has also made it rather sterile. I can only hope the other 2 greatest gardens might be more ...

ATOMIC DOME

In Hiroshima I visited the famous or infamous Atomic Dome(ground zero August 1945)and learned a lot of interesting details. The first atomic bomb was detonated at 600 meters above the city to maximize its lethal potential. It resulted in over 140,000 deaths including 14,000 Koreans who were forced in to ...

Hiroshima Top 5 (My Summer Holiday)

Just returned from a two day trip to Hiroshima. As I don't want to run the risk of making this entry read like a piece entitled 'My Summer Holiday' written by a year 8 student (God, I don't miss correcting those!), I've broken my trip down into the five most memorable events. Grab a coffee, sit back and come on down to ye olde Hiroshima with me! 1. SHINKANSEN This is the iconic form of bullet train in Japan, and it was with great excitement that I took it to ...

... and drinking. Well, the drinking part I guess is similar to Thanksgiving.. maybe. Whatever, Brian, Glen, Ashleigh and I decided to make a trip out to Saijo to watch the Danjiri (portable shrines) be dragged thru the city. Now I'm sure you're thinking: "Wait, I thought that 'Omikoshi' meant 'portable shrine'" Well, my dear friend, you'd be correct! Danjiri and Omikoshi both mean 'portable shrine'. The only difference is ...

We had really great conversations and then went back to her home to prepare for the party. The what now? A party with a few friends & their ...

The walking course is approximately 1,200km long, can take anywhere from 30 to 60 days to complete, and can be completed in any order. It had decided to **** down with rain but this actually enhanced the experience of getting naked and sitting around outside in a ...
