Florence

May 7 - 9th We caught an early train to Florence and arrived before the streets were packed with tourists just like us. Our hotel was about a 10 minute walk from the train station and we were able to store our bags before venturing out into the town. Florence is a beautiful city, we really enjoyed our time spent there. We of course hit the big sights Went to the Bargello, Uffizi and Accademia museums. We were both in awe of Michangelo's David. It was awesome, the statue was much larger than e...

Cortona to Florence

Our last few hours in Cortona... We enjoyed another great breakfast at the hotel (with probably the best cappuccinos ever), before we headed down to the internet shop to do some downloading. Unfortunately they were still closed (Italian time!), so we decided to walk up to the market to pick up a few souvenirs and some lunch to bring with us on our way to Florence. We went back to the internet shop to do some final downloading before we packed up. Before leaving Cortona, we attempted to find B...

Day 10

Hey, So we had the early wake up call, breakfast and then early departure as usual. We made a surprise stop in Pisa to see the leaning tower. We had dinner on our own. I ate a a local place once we got to Florence. We stayed at the Hotel Firenze. It was a very nice hotel. After dinner we went out for a local night life night. We headed to the Red Garter. We actually met another Contiki tour there as well. We got some drinks for free, which was nice. There was karaoke there as well. I sang som...

Roma is for lovers, Firenze is for tourists

Wow there is so much to write about but unfortunately not much time to write it. I am currently in Firenze (Florence) at a little internet cafe on a lunchbreak. Yesterday morning we left Pienza, drove 2 hours, got to Albergo Firenze (albergo means hotel), where I have my own room! and went for our first walk around the city. Rachel actually got sick in Pienza so Claudia took her back to Rome but they are supposed to take the train up to Florence and regroup with us tonight. There are tons of ...

Historical Traveler Reviews of Hotel Firenze Florence

Accomodations were fair

from Californiafamily
We were a family of four (2 teenagers) so we chose this hotel since it had bed configurations that would work for a family. There were many students staying in the hotel, but they were well supervised and quiet by midnight. The location of this hotel is great. The breakfast is terrible, but we just walked a few steps away to a cafe across the street to enjoy pastry and cappuccino. This hotel is inexpensive, rather comfortable bed, but very small room, the air conditioning doesn't work well, but for the price, it's worth it. We walked to the accademia, Uffizi, Santa Maria Novella, Pitti Palace, restaurants, Ponte Vecchio etc. and the train station with no problem.

Highly Recommended!!!

Very close to all the sites; literally around the corner from the Duomo and Giotto's Bell Tower. And since Florece is a smaller city, I was able to walk to all the other sites as well.

Very clean: the room was almost all white and immaculate.

Very comfortable.

Firense Albergo is also a real hotel (as opposed to a pensione, which are popular in Italy), which means each room has it's own bathroom.

All this at a VERY reasonable price. It was one of the least expensive places I stayed.

If you're going to Florence, you HAVE to stay here.

Comfortable, Well Located and Inexpensive

from ItalianTraveller
After an unpleasant night at the Pendini, we happily went back to the Firenze. We had been there 3 years ago and found it still to be most pleasant, with friendly staff, unbeatable location and rooms that are comfortably large and reasonably well furnished. The beds could use new mattresses, but for the price, it is an excellent value. Listening to the music from the concerts at the church across the Corso is much more nicer than the sounds of drunken revelry on the Piazza Republica.

Good basic lodging, excellent location

from akimbok
Stayed here for two nights in Sept 2004. Our room was clean, bathroom was nice-sized. No view, but the room was quiet. Location is right in the heart of the city and can't be beat. Staff is competent but not especially friendly when compared to the other places we stayed in and near Florence. Frankly, we didn't spend a lot of time in our hotel anyway so it didn't need to be fancy.

Great Hotel!

I stayed at the Albergo September 25th for 3 nights and it was perfect. The location was great, the room was average but not bad at all and the price was very reasonable. I would consider staying here again if I ever was to come back to Florence.

The Albergo..

from A TripAdvisor Member
The "Albe" as I like to call it, (It got that name because those are they only four letters that still light up as they hang from the hotel's exterior neon sign), is a 1 star hotel. Tiny lobby, poor bedding, mediocre bathrooms, and HORRIBLE breakfest. If your a student or looking for a cheap hotel, this is the place. But for a little more money (Under 50 euros more a night), you could easily stay in a 2 or 3 start hotel which will offer nicer rooms, telephones that work, clean bathrooms, and an over all better time. The only thing this hotel has is location. But there are thousands of hotels right near it that are much nicer. The linens and towels are gross and they limit 1 towel per day, per person. Beds are more like cots. Ive seen better looking hospital rooms, honestly. And, if you lucky, you get a room with bric flooring and you will get your feet very dirty. Oh, and dont forget, the A/C doesnt always work. Anyways, try it out; then you will realize how good home is. (ACA ITALY SUMMER 04!)

Our Favorite!

from dyceedo
We love Albergo Firenze. It's in the perfect location and the rooms are very clean and spacious (especially for a European hotel!). We stumbled across this hotel in the early 90's and my husband and I just recently stayed there again on our honeymoon (Nov '03). This place is a steal!

Central and a quick walk

from A TripAdvisor Member
Find a good public parking lot and then take a taxi to the hotel.

Otherwise with all the one way streets and pedestrain islands, you just won't get there. Once you do, everything is fine.

Loved it

from jjellison
We stayed there in December 2000 for 1 week and I deliberately looked for a place to review it because it exceeded our expectations and I wanted to share the news. I was surprised that another reviewer had a rotten time. All this means is that you really have to luck out and get a good room.

I'll offer an honest description. What impressed me was that it was just a stone's throw from the Duomo. Our room looked directly at the Duomo, so it was like "A Room With A View", a very pleasing plus. The hotel is set in a tiny quiet piazza off Via del Corso, which is a main shopping street, so eating and snacks and groceries/necessities was not a problem. You walk to the Duomo, the Piazza della Repubblica, in 5 minutes. The location is fantastic especially if you enjoy walking and musing around tiny interesting streets.

The hotel exterior I recall is not modern. My guess is it's 19th century - plain, pleasant. My room and ensuite bathroom was very clean. Since it was inexpensive, it gave me exactly what I expected: some plain, worn furniture, plain curtains, and a small sink. However, it was not tacky, cheap, or "Motel 6" - you still feel like you're in a genuine Italian place with its quirks. There's a small t.v., but not much programming, no cable.

The breakfast room is very B&B, bright , pleasant, kind of home style. Again the decor is restrained - no chintz, no plastic flowers or white whicker. The breakfast is included: just rolls and coffee or hot cocoa, no American style breakfasts here. You can't order anything else, there are no eggs, toast, etc. There is no menu. But we could have as much rolls and coffee as we liked, and we supplemented our breakfast with groceries from a supermarket.

The staff was very friendly when we were there; we asked directions, etc. and were treated genially even though we spoke no Italian. They are very comfortable in English. We had no payment problems or unreasonable demands.

If you are just looking for a decent, comfortable bed and breakfast, in a historic location, and don't want to pay more of, or don't need, luxuries, this is a perfect casual comfort place. If you're into a luxurious fluffy bed with down pillows, or thick bathrobes and bathtowels, there are more upscale "B&B" type pensions down by the Arno. If you are on a honeymoon or a special first or once-in-a-lifetime visit, then you may be disappointed.

Albergo Fireze won't spoil you, but it is perfect for a young couple who want something romantic yet reasonably priced. We had been to Florence before, and were not on a honeymoon, so this suited our modest needs.

It's definitely better than the YMCA, and it's better than what student budget travellers can expect.

Mediocre

from PanoramaItaly
The Albergo Firenze enjoys a nice location just one-half block from the beautiful Duomo and Campanile. Within easy walking distance is the best of Firenze's sights and restaurants. But the glory for this place stops there. Unfortunately, this is more of a pensione and, the nights we were there, was actually more akin to a dormitory than a hotel. If you're a student looking for a cheap place in a good location, check it out. Lots of students were in the lobby downing vino while poring over art history materials. Looked like they were having a good time. The staff was indifferent toward even recommending a restaurant and ignored some other guests' questions altogether. Our rooms were rather noisy and our bathroom was mildewed and had a strange odor we couldn't quite identify (and didn't really want to look too deeply into). Because they were full we were unable to switch rooms. Our single window faced into an interior air shaft, not really able to call it a courtyard, also with a not-so-pleasant odor emitting from it. If you stay here, request a room facing the street. The price was inexpensive so we could not complain too much as we felt we pretty much got what we paid for, though we had hoped for at least a clean bathroom. I'd say it's decidedly mediocre though the price and location make it somewhat more appealing. Noise and icy service could be overlooked if it weren't for the lack of cleanliness we encountered on our visit.
