Arriving in Cabo San Lucas

We land in Los Cabos and immediately do our best to out smart the time-share sharks. We ducked and dodged until we finally exited the airport. We had heard that there was a transportation strike going on, but expected it to possibly hamper our return transfer. We quickly realized that we were wrong. Not wanting to be taken advantage of, after successfully escaping the gauntlet of time-share sharks; we were not going to just believe that Expedia would refund our pre-paid transfers upon our ret...

Boys night out on the town

Tonight was Bachelor Party night. We had a great dinner at Miguel Locos Restaraunt, before heading to El Squid Roe for some nightlife. El Squid Roe is a multi-level club that caters to the wild and crazy partiers in town. After a quick stop to refil our drinks at The Zoo, we hit up The Gigglin' Marlin. The Marlin boasts a great bar, but is famous for stinging up unsuspecting guests like a fish and feeding them three shots. Our Bachelor got caught, and it made for a good time. Escaping The Gig...

Golf and the coolest rehersal dinner ever

This morning I managed to get away for a golf tournament at the Cabo San Lucas Country Club. While it was an early morning after a ************* the town, I quickly woke up when I got the bill for the golf balls at the course. All I have to say is make sure you bring your own balls. Golf was good though. I had a pretty good round at a very challenging course, as my scramble team had the best score at the end of the day. After a quick shower it was time for the rehersal dinner. We boarded a di...

Lover's Beach by Land and A Cabo Wedding

When I started planning this trip, I was looking at Google Earth with my friend who was in Cabo last year. He was showing me where my hotel was in relation to "El Arco" and Lover's Beach. He was telling me that you can take a water taxi to Lover's Beach, and I asked if you could just scamper over the rocks that blocked the way from my beach? He said, no way, only by boat. Assuming my friend was providing me good information, I was florred when another member of our group successfully traverse...

Marlin Fishing

I managed another day away, this time testing out the world famous deep sea fishing that Cabo boasts. I booked a charter through Minerva's, and we headed straight for the Marlin grounds. The fishing had looked good over the past few days so we were excited when we spotted our first Marlin right off the bat. This fish was not hungry though, but within 5 minutes we had a rod singing. Our guide quickly grabbed the rod and just before passing it to us, the fish escaped. We saw about 15 more Marli...

Los Cabos

Popular tourist destination at the very south of the Baja California. Very nice offerings for a quality vacation, the only problem is the city is pricey...

Historical Traveler Reviews of Hotel Finisterra Cabo San Lucas

June 03

from dacarr
stayed at the finnisterra june 03 pros: close to town, 10 mi walk, very clean great pools, nice rooms-tile,mini bars, iron, private balcony w/chairs-good view cons:stay at the new section! (palpala) make sure your rooms are just a #(no letter before) or youll get an older room with only a view of the marina.be ready to walk. it is way up on a hillside. they say that they dont sell timeshares for finisterra because they sold out, but you will be directed to a hostess in the lobby after you check in who will try to sell you to the resort next door- unless you want to waste precious hours of your vacation at a sales pitch, tell her you are unemployed!

Proceed w/ caution

mixed bag - love the weather and it is quiet One year the hotel ran out of water in all the bathrooms - no reduction on room rates or accomodation in other facilities. Often times the lights, power, appliances don't work. Security is very lax. Great personalities in service staff. Look forward to returning. DO NOT use the original rooms - they are roadh infested - literally!

May at the finesterra

from houbrm
stayed at the finesterra 5/5 - 5/12 in the newer timeshares. the older ones are dumps. hated the middle pool - it was like taking a hot bath. most of us went to the lower or upper to cool off. great staff. quick walk to downtown.

Older section of timeshare run down!

from A TripAdvisor Member
Check to see if your reservation is for the older section of the timeshare condo. Confirmed by others also staying in this section of the hotel, our unit, in particular, was dark, old and run down. the kitchen was tiny, the faucets leaking, the furniture very old (70s-ish), the cleaning service very poor and inconsistent. i can go on and on... Another thing is only the middle pool was heated!! the top pool and the one on the beach, was cold!! therefore, everyone gravitated to the middle pool, which became very crowded. the grounds around the pool area was nice, but where we were, on the older section, facing the marina, it was definitely NOt Gold Crown worthy! so, do your homework and check to see where your unit was.

What a view!

We had friends who recommended the Finisterra and we took their advice and got the bay side. The view from the bay side took our breath away when we opened the curtains. Our stay was great. We enjoyed the Blue Marlin, the Whalewatcher Bar, the pool areas, the service people were friendly and neat and clean. Our rooms were kept immaculate. The walk up and down the stairs was a little much, but the view was worth it. Personnel were all courteous and helpful. The only complaint I might have is the beds. Queens that are a smaller size was not what we had wanted, but the king bed was not available on our floor. All in all, this is a place we will continue to return too. Cabo is a real party town !!

Good Choice

I liked the Finesterra because of the beautiful pool area and huge Palapa bar. Drink service by pool was great, probably because of tips. Our room was nice and view of Pacific/pool from balcony was beautiful.I went there in June and was taken aback by how windy it was in the afternoon. We couldn't enjoy the pool because of the wind. Forget about walking on the beach...it becomes a sandstorm. The beach is too rough to swim in or even lay out by. If you want a good beach, stay by Sea of Cortez...not on the Pacific. And downtown Cabo was completely empty in June. Hawkers are everywhere at the marina, very annoying. I plan to go back and stay another place, but I enjoyed the Finesterra.

Good Value

I stayed at the Finisterra in March 03. The hotel is clean and very well located on the Pacific beach, but close to downtown. Transportation is very expensive, so walking downtown was helpful. The rooms are comfortable and the pools are nice. The service and food are good, but not great. They were offering a special deal so we got two free nights by staying seven. This was a very good value compared to other resorts we looked at. I would certainly go back again.

Beware, stay elsewhere!

We stayed here over New Year's. Our room was not ready upon check-in--bed not made up, porchlight out, screen door fell off, TV didn't work, and to make it worse, we couldn't even get a key to the room for over 2 hours so we were basically stranded, unable to go eat, and no one seemed to care. Every time we called down the desk we kept getting put off or ignored....finally my husband got upset and went down in person. They didn't seem to think anything was wrong. We weren't even able to speak to a supervisor until the next day. We did get our room upgraded to the palapas/beach area, otherwise the amount we were paying for the original room would have been a complete ripoff (think Motel 6). Turns out that you need a shuttle to go back and forth from the older part of the hotel to the other parts (unless you want to hike up and down the hills several times a day) and the shuttle service took us over 30 minutes the one time we used it.

Our upgraded room was fine, and the hotel itself is beautiful, but the service was terrible. Our (we thought) reserved rent-a-car was unavailable the day we needed it and no one bothered to let us know so we could make alternative plans, room service trays sat outside the rooms for 24 hours or more, they kept trying to charge us for water in the room even though it was water we purchased elsewhere, and then they tried to charge the room for meals we never purchased (they couldn't produce the signature from the bar). And the New Years party they had for $60 each was a joke....Five and a half hours of a bad Santana cover band and a very average buffet. Not even a glass of complimentary champagne. I guess that's how they treat people who don't succumb to the timeshare traps. Next time I'll stay home.

Nice Location

from A TripAdvisor Member
Just came back from several days in Cabo. This hotel has a great location near town and it's beautifully located cliffside. It's walking distance to the harbor but you feel secluded as well. Food and drinks are overpriced, but you can always go into town for more selection and better quality. We stayed in one of the nicest rooms of the hotel (pool view and ocean view), but the loud airconditioning unit for the hotel was located close by which was very noisy throughout the night. My only other complaint was the hotel rationed their pool towel disbursement. They were always out of towels when we went down to the pool! Other than that, i would stay here again as the service was good and the location was optimal as well.
