We left Lastovo early as we knew that we had a 10 hr sail. As we left Croatia we spotted 2 dolphins close by, what a lovely sight. We settled in to a routine of look out, sleep and reading. We set the sails and headed off into the distance , leaving land behind us. It seemed strange to look all around us and see nothing but sea. Vieste's beaches are packed with Italians in mid-summer. But when we arrived we found a peaceful contrast to the hustle and bustle of Rome. Today we took a boat cruise at 9 AM along the craggy Gargano Coast, marveling at the pretty coves, hidden grottos and unusual rock formations ...

market garden style crops. We hit the coast at the city of Bari, a huge port
with innumerable high rise flats along its outskirts. As we left Bari, driving north
along the coast, the land gave way to manmade salt flats with huge mountains of
salt and white egrets wading in the shallow pools. We could begin to see the
Promontorio del Gargano rising above the rest of the landscape.

Group dinner - Pea soup, cod, pasta w/shrimp, cake. Ate dinner with Tram who worked on Air Force One. Both her and Rocky (104 trips to China) work for Boeing.
