This morning we had a wonderful breakfast at the hotel. Fresh fruit cocktail, various pastries, yogurt, orange juice and coffee and divine hot crepes. Yum. Abdul and the medina quide picked us up and we went off to explore Marrakech's medina. The streets here are a little wider than in Fes but the same hustle and bustle and distinct smells still exist. We also visited the house of the Grand Vizier. At one period (I think the late 1800's) the reigning king died and his eldest son was only 14. ...

The city is all
built from the same red mud so it has a gorgeous rosy glow and we loved it
straight away. It was very dusty and dry, lots of people about, and very clean.
We went into the old town, through thick outer walls and were dropped as close
as we could get to our riad with the car. Then we were told a guy would take us
further, and he put our bags on a trolley. Too quick and then we were off,
knowing by the end he would ask for a tip even ...
From the fun flats of Marrakech...we made our way to the High Atlas mountains for well...mountains of magnificent hiking and views.
Jebel Toubkal stands at 4200m above sea level and at that is the highest most point in northern Africa and also a bit of a mission! We made it up the mighty mountain in a few days and did some sleeping, sun burning and Scrabble in there as well. An absolutely incredible adventure!
Back down and all set to embark on a road trip to Fez!

... magnificent mazes of Marakesh. After the events of my manic few months back in Britain, i was up for a few days of down time but the city soon sucked me in.
Between BIG sleeps and snuggles with the resident cats, camp land lord and lovely courtyard at our hotel, we wound our way amongst the amazing stalls, scenery and scents of an awesome place.

It has been EXTREMELY hot. Probably the hottest temps Ive ever personally experienced, every day in the 40s. Note to self: if I ever come back, it will not be during August.
Met up with my tour group on Sat night... hmm how to capture such a "dynamic" group of 16 in one paragraph?! We had 4 well-meaning albeit slightly boring Canadians (one of which blue ...
... 8217;s like being lost in a House of Mirrors except you are totally out of your comfort zone. I never felt afraid but your antennae are up, for sure. I was robbed 40 years ago in the alleyways of Tangiers so…. but I honestly don’t feel unsafe; instead it’s a kind of edgy nervousness. A guy said he’d take us to the area of our riad but he was just as lost. That cost me only 10 Durhams. (He says, “ ...
Marrakesh, Marrakech-Tensift-Al Haouz, Morocco thedicksons... actually a Moroccan language - which is a combination of Spanish, French and Arabic - it's actually a separate language. He told us that Morocco is a very safe country for the two of us to travel....I never understood that until later... After our history and culture lesson, he took us out to experience some actual Moroccan culture. He took us to La Mamounia, the hotel that Hillary Clinton recently stayed at and the location that it is ...

... point 20 mins from our hotel which we find successfully from here though all a bit of a daze our game plan was to get on the hop on -off bus and go from there - but alas that did not happen after sitting at the right spot waiting for the bus and it not turning up we decide to look for it now this will teach us not to be so inpatient in the future - we start walking down side streets within the city walls which are all filled with street stores ...
