... we had several miles of worry, not to mention several more miles of ridiculous, and I mean ridiculous, sharp, high incline hairpin bends to negotiate. After about half an hour of going up and round, up and round, I was beginning to think this would be the most unlikely place for a border crossing ever. But a border crossing, some 6000ft in the air, it was. And through a tunnel in the mountain (at the halfway mark of which read a sign saying 'welcome to Slovenia', a ...

... But what isn't a sight to behold in these parts? I'm currently sitting in the shade of the car on a campsite 20 miles outside Lienz, Austria, having had undoubtedly the greatest driving day of my life. A few thousand feet of lush green mountain, as manicured as any golf course, is staring down at me, incredibly steep-sided and forested on top. After lunch we met up with Renato at the Col Rodella Cable Car just round the corner from our campsite and got kitted out in harness and helmets, then it was into the Cable Car and swiftly up out ...

... Italian pizza at the pretty campsite restaurant. We began to try and figure out all the words for various toppings in Italian from the menu .... We are not very good yet but the pizzas which arrived were all yummy anyway. After dinner we decided the coolness of the evening was a good time to attempt to erect the awning for the first time on the Big Trip. The last time we did it we were with the Corries at Loch Ken which seems like ages ...

... it was off the Motorway and up again into the Dolomites. It's strange passing all the skiing slopes in mid summer, especially the Olympic Ski Jumps. We also passed a massive Road Cycle Race, fortunately on the other side as the Peloton was huge and there was no way to get past it. After about an hour of driving through the mountains we reached the campsite at Campitello di Fassa. 194 Miles but still a 7 Hour drive, completed safely anyway. ...
