... loser-ish i know! After a short walk around the very quiet village and descovering the danish pay 40% tax we mounted our bikes and set off for teh island of Mon. Matias very bravely decided to join us, and amkiing a usuable bike from 4 old ones his father had laying around we were ready to leave. 3 hours after planned departure time, irt was going to be a late one! So ...
Mon, Denmark sian_ripleywe missed a ferry at Fehmarn, making Copenhagen a little too far. We decided the "city" of Nykobing would probably the best option. The first two we tried we either fully booked or closed (at 10pm). Luckily we found by change hotel Sam, which, despite its name and odd location, was actually pretty good.
Nykøbing, Falster, Denmark jphil8871... largely of potato salad, yoghurt and some dodgy looking creamy wafer things. Despite this, following the food we have eaten so far on holiday, this felt like a major feast. We even had apple juice with it. The northern part of Germany is pretty much flat land, much of which is now occupied by those environmentally friendly but slightly ugly wind turbines. I once spent a trip to Wales counting the number of wind turbines along the journey, where ...
Rodby, Lolland, Denmark stephen.turner... as it turns out, used to be the capital of Denmark. We explore the old castle and the gardens surrounding it and then head back to her house. Cooking dinner and enjoying a board game night I am right at home and feel rejuvenated and then some. Another early night off to sleep and I should be ready to go when I head off to Berlin in the morning!
Vordingborg, Denmark madman96... keep eating and eating until I feel like I may actually have trouble with any dessert. Then Tina drops a bomb... dessert is bananas flambee (on the bbq) with ice cream, sugar and chocolate sauce on top... I find room in my spare stomach and thank my lucky stars that I decided to leave Copenhagen! We spend the evening catching up, sharing photos and stories from our lives since 1995 ...
Vordingborg, Zealand, Denmark madman96... had dropped by about 15 degrees, so no more shorts and singlet tops! Before leaving the island we wanted to check out a few prehistoric Stone Age burial mounds. They weren't all that exciting really, but you could crawl inside them and see how the large boulders had been put together. It would have taken a lot of time and effort back then to make it, but really it was just a big mound with some boulders in the ...
Stege, Denmark laine... in them a long time ago, but I also got to see some that the royal family still live in. It was really cool, they had the guards in their funny outfits and everything. Last weekend the inner wheel club of Maribo put on a get together for all the students in my district. I got to meet the oldies in my district, the ones who have been here since January or so, that was ...
Maribo, Denmark soleilrowan... to Copenhagen to check out some sights... we walked down the canals and took in some history at the Jewish Museum. I had read about a area called 'Christiana' in the lonely planet and we decided to go for a look. Basically back in the 70's a group of hippies declared this area an 'independent state' the Danish government let it ride to see what happened. Christiana comprised its own government, laws and school systems.... Allowing ...
Stege, Denmark paula_rod... interesting guy to bring all of these things up in a 10 minute conversation. He was all about the free hash in amsterdam. when he found out janna and jason were going there next, he went on and one about it. And then told us how he wrote a story for his newspaper about the prostitutes and drugs in amsterdam. Anyway....enough about that. Last night we had dinner (and it cost almost 200 dollars for nothing special CRAZY PRICES, thank goodness I get paid today :-) And then played ...
