... hour delay to refill with gelato, visit an ATM and see a barber (more on that in another blog). We arrived in Manfedonia just as it was getting dark to a 4 room B&B over looking the harbor in the center of town. That evening the streets were decorated and packed with people to celebrate the festival of St Francis. They even broadcast mass on street speakers all over town. A great seafood dinner and fireworks finished the day. Pictures ...

This morning got off to a rocky start. We took a "shortcut" which looked extremely promising on the map, however, the dirt road gradually turned into a two track and then a sand path through a swamp which was infested with most of the world's mosquitoes. Who knew mosquitoes loved Italy too? Eventually we pushed the bikes through the soft sand for about a kilometer while fighting off and ingesting the mosquitoes ...

... The waves made a loud bang when they hit the ship. It sounded like thunder. Fortunately, I didn't get sick and slept well. However, Toni got sea sick. Another fun event on the ship is when we come into a port and dock and again when we leave a port. It is dorky but ...

... build a wall to keep them out". Anyway he built this little getaway outside Rome so he had a place to relax when he wasn't busy conquering more peoples and taking more loot. This place was built in the 2nd century AD and it is hard to fathom how they were able to construct such a place. It includes pools, fountains, baths, dining halls, servants' quarters (about a 100 of them), the emperor's living quarters and ...

Puglia, like Sicily has a lot to offer. History, architecture and miles and miles of sandy beaches on its eastern coast. Yesterday, I spent hours diving, swimming and retrieving sticks from the Adriatic. I'll whisper it quietly, lest Signor e Signora hear - I think I've benefitted more than anyone from this trip, I feel 5 or 6 years younger.

    Fino alla prossima volta,
