      Great riverside dining

A little away from downtown but nicely located on the Chena river which was decidedly browner than the gacier fed rivers. Good size room but bathroom basic. Restaurants good except for Edgeview - vegetables dried out and tried to serve main before we had finished entrée. Riverside deck great for a drink and casual feed. All in all pretty good.

Day 39 (Wednesday): Coach ride from Denali to Fairbanks. Scenery soon changed to more open land and smaller trees but still great. Ended up being 5 hours despite being told 2-3 but we did have a piddle break at Nenana Cultural Centre (bit of a dive) and downtown Fairbanks (pretty unimpressive - outskirts much better!). Plenty of Banks with several …

As most of the group had started to make their way home eight of us remaining for an extra day took a trip up to the University of Alaska. We watched a couple of interesting documentaries about the Northern Lights and also how the Earth took its current form. We then toured around the various exhibits dating bzvk to prehistoric times to modern day …

We left Denali and headed for Fairbanks which we reached at lunch time. We saw a musher (dog sledder) showing off two of her lead dogs which compete in the 8oo mile Yukon Challenge. After this we headed down to the river and boarded the Discovery 111 a Sternwheel river boat. Along the river we saw many different styles of houses including log …

We left Vancouver Tuesday after a grueling check in process at the airport. Long lines for security and customs. Our first flight was 3 hours from Vancouver to Anchorage, a one hour lay over and then a one hour flight in to Fairbanks.

And the "tour" begins. This part of our adventure is our land portion of our tour package with Princess …

What can you say about flying? You do it because it gets you to the places you would like to go quickly. Period. I don't know to many people that actually love to fly. Since we are foreigners flying out of Canada we had to go through regular airport security then through customs. The whole process wasn't bad actually and we made it through both in …
