A little away from downtown but nicely located on the Chena river which was decidedly browner than the gacier fed rivers. Good size room but bathroom basic. Restaurants good except for Edgeview - vegetables dried out and tried to serve main before we had finished entrée. Riverside deck great for a drink and casual feed. All in all pretty good.

Today for many of our traveling ccompanions the journey had come to an end. There were eight of us remaining for an extra day and we took the opportunity to visit the University of Alaska. We watched a couple of interesting documentaries about the Northern Lights and also how the Earth took its current form. We then toured around the various …

We left Denali and headed for Fairbanks which we reached at lunch time. We saw a musher (dog sledder) showing off two of her lead dogs which compete in the 8oo mile Yukon Challenge. After this we headed down to the river and boarded the Discovery 111 a Sternwheel river boat. Along the river we saw many different styles of houses including log …

on friday i decided to check out the shul. as you saw in the picture on the previous entry, the synagogue's in a repurposed house. it was pretty nice inside: not fancy, but well kept up. there were 7 or 8 people there for services and ...

After getting our bearings in Fairbanks Saturday evening, Zeke, Yaffa and I went to a little Thai restaurant on College Drive (or Avenue, or Street) off of University Drive (or Avenue or Street). It was delicious! By this time I was ready for bed. I found my little cottage (a friend won a free night stay at Rivers Edge Resort and gave it to me).

Today I got up and walked around downtown ...

... s center and railroad station. larry took a quick look at the new Visitor's Center and said it was probably one of the best visitor's centers he'd seen. Our train, the McKinley Explorer came at 3:45 and Rebecca and Rich arrived on the shuttle bus in time for us to board the train at 4:00 pm. We rode through much flatter terrain with no mountains shortly after we left Denali. Before we got there, however, we passed.some really large cut-throughs for the train to go between ...
