... there wasn't much to do in Catania, being the port that we docked in. Catania is the 2nd city in Sicily to Palermo and lacked the attractiveness of other locations that we've docked or anchored in. Our description of Catania is only based on the views from the ship and the bus ride to and from the ship including through the city centre. It looks a little dilapidated compared to other places we've been and the port area was stock standard industrial. However Catania ...

We finally had a relaxing morning today, starting with a Nutella croissant for a late breakfast and then a little wander along the waterfront of Giardini Naxos. ... the end of summer in the northern hemisphere! The walk around a series of (mostly inactive) craters for as long as we could bear in the frigid conditions, before descending the way we had come to the warmth of the lower altitudes. It is hard to describe in only a few words what it is like to stand on top of a 3,000m high active volcano, so you really need to experience the awe-inspiring majesty for yourself.

... beaming, neither one of us spending very little money, and getting exactly what we wanted, We paraded down the narrow little streets, looking in every window, and almost every store. We saw a little over half of this wonderful place, before having lunch at the famed Metropole hotel, strategically balanced high above the sea. What a gloriously yummy, lite lunch we had, and washed it down with a glass of Prosecco . After lunch, ...
