... road seemed to be a pedestrian street as it was cobbled, narrow and full of people and we were sure we shouldn’t be driving down it but surprisingly this is the main road into town. The hotel Florence was a delight, right on the banks of picturesque Lake Como. I had a beautiful room with a window opening to the view. We had a walk around the very picturesque town, bought a few souvenirs and later cracked a bottle of Ayala champagne that Barbara and Leigh ...

We say farewell to Milan with a taxi to the Central Railway Station which is huge, try to purchase tickets from carne machine but it won't accept my credit card, luckily a nice gypsy woman just happened to be looking over my shoulder and offered to help and we get our tickets. Grazie mille, but she doesn't want my thanks as she has just come out of hospital and needs some money. She still had the bandage on her arm! Feeling sorry for her ...

For whom the bell, and the drum tolls

... line, but even so, Milano station is an experience. We join the throng of touristas trying to decipher the flashing boards announcing trains and platforms. Our first problem is that you need to know the final destination of your train, and we don’t. Look, there’s an official looking young man over there. He has a white shirt and a tie. He has a name tag - Cheisa di Gesu Christo Dei Santi Degli Ultimi ...
