We were going to head to Lisbon but decided to stop in Nazare first. Nazare is a pretty ocean town that is very busy in the summer with tourists and beach goers. We arrived to a slightly overcast day and an empty beach. We stopped at a small restaurant for lunch and got some yummy soup (again) and seafood before making ...
Nazare, Estremadura, Portugal ktchris... some are unbelievable and beautiful such as the round church and the tiled chapels. There are long hallways with many small rooms where the monks and novices would sleep. The doors to these rooms are almost shorter then me which was kind of funny. There are 8 cloisters with fountains and beautifully decorated walls and architecture.
After walking for a couple hours we decided that we had seen the place sufficiently and we made our way back to the car.
... who appeared in 1916. Lúcia described her vision of Mary as "more brilliant than the sun, shedding rays of light clearer and stronger than a crystal glass filled with the most sparkling water and pierced by the burning rays of the sun."

Constância, Santarém, Portugal danics... s way too salty.
Before we left the restaurant, several Sicilians tourists wanna take pictures with us. They didn't speak any English... and I was trying to ask "di dove sei".... well they didn't reply either. Anyway, after some confusion we found that they were from Sicily and we took pictures together. One old man said "Buon Viaggio" to us. Before I left, I said "Ciao Ciao, Buon Viaggio!"
... pictures, and headed to the souvenir shops for some shopping. I bought a few things, including... chicken? OH right, we are in Portugal!
So this castle was King Afonso's gift to his wife.
It was a little disappointing to not getta see much here.. beside shopping for souvenirs...

... to occupy us. Cafe Paradiso, almost opposite our pension is something of a Tomar institution, a trendy hangout for the town's youth, it attracts a good mix of people. Given that this was a mid-week and not quite August there did seem to be an awful lot of people that would fall into the long-haired, black-t-shirted, geek category who turned up everyday in order to smoke (lots) drink (not quite so much) and talk (loudly). That said ...
Tomar, Estremadura, Portugal warm... we had a beach to get to. And what a beach it was. The Praia del Rey hotel is situated on a beautiful stretch of coast lined with cliffs on the edge of incredible beaches that were almost always empty. Each time we went out to sand we were almost alone for a mile in each direction. In the five nights and days we spent along the Obidos area coast we sat by the pool and the osean, read books, napped, drank beer and wine and took the occasional evening trip to one of the local villages for ...
Obidos, Estremadura, Portugal croxandlilt... an hour and was not thrilled. I thought about just going back to the bus station and to the next town with a hostel, but luckily the hostel door opened for someone and I followed them in where the receptionist let me throw my bags down for a few hours. Thank god! I guess I´ll be staying the night anyway. Not a very impressive city, I might have skipped it had I known anything about it. Huge 12 century castle in the middle of the city not far from the hostel, so I ...
