The tunnel was built in less than 4 months and controlled by the army (you needed permission to pass through it and approval for the goods you were transporting... the black market was pretty bad!!). ... ringing. Then at the same time the Muslim call to prayer played over loudspeakers from the mosques. Not a minute later a nun passed a woman dressed head to toe in a black veil. Only in Sarajevo.

I am going to sleep in a real bed rather than upright on a bus for the first time in a few nights and I am excited. I am off to Zagreb, Croatia in the morning on yet another quest to figure out what makes the former Yugoslavia tick.

... which initially put me off a bit, but turned out to be so glad Sam seemed so keen to eat there. I got squid with white wine and garlic sauce on salad and grilled potatoes and Sam got a mouth watering chicken roll thing stuffed with cheese and ham with grilled veggies. Ah, I'm salivating just thinking about how good it was! If you're ever in Sarajevo, I can't urge you enough to go to Dveri in the old town.

After dinner, and seeing it was a Friday night, we decided to head ...

The next day, our high school history lessons continued, and we walked to the famous (or infamous, maybe) Latin bridge where Archduke Francis Ferdinand and his wife Sofie were assassinated, triggering WWI. There was a museum nearby which gave a minute by minute ...

... reason. And not being prepared, I had no map of the city, and no idea where the tram station was. I was lucky that there was a cash machine in the station and some that understood the expression "One euro equals how MANY marcs?". Turns out it was 2, incase your interested. I also had noticed that a few little tents, or coffee shops were open, probably because they knew that there was nothing that we could do except to just drink coffee and wait around ...

Land of war

... Bosnian money to me. Met a girl called Iena on the way out of Bosnia- she was half Bosnian-Half Serb and had been sniped at during the war, the war had of cours effected her most because she was technically part of neither side and is now apparantly hated by both bosniaks and serbs. Toms thoughts- The Bosnian countryside is beautiful, and Sarajevo has a lot of potential as a tourist destination if only for its historic value- in a way ...
