    ... built, but it was somewhere in the 15th or 16th century, and its name Palazzo de Gazza (a bird noted for its attraction and theft of shiny objects) is memorialized in a fresco-like painting in the entry. As though we had stepped bck 500 years, we followed Elena through the doors to the lobby with its classical, Romanesque statues of the Four Evangelists that welcomed us to our palace.

    ... A couple of the old buildings that we visited are still used as public buildings today. For example, the Tribune (court house) has a fabulous ceiling, which I am sure poor sods will appreciate as they turn up for their day in court! We had lunch in a small trattoria overlooking one of the squares - beautiful pesto gnocchi for me, and pasta for Garth, with the obligatory red wine and sparkling water.     Alore, we started our day a little earlier as Dave was leaving to go back home...we'll miss him but I'm guessing Elizabeth and the kids will be glad to have him home....he has lots to tell them on their drive to the Ozarks tomorrow!     ... bit scary especially where there was only one way up and one down and the stairs where only one person wide, but had to accommodate both the ascending and descending people. My knee didn't like me too much after that one, as evidenced by the constant shaking of my my legs for about 20 minutes after we reached the ground.
