... mountains. The water of the Soca River is bright turquoise and absolutely beautiful! The town we are in tonight, Bovec, is very small. The apartment is nothing to get excited about, but it's only 1 night and it's relatively inexpensive! We have loved every minute of our travels in Slovenia. Tomorrow we will drive through the country's only national park, which has 50 hairpin turns...something tells me that will be both exciting and ...

The next day we check out and drive onwards – after our little holiday, it is time for some hard travelling. ... and woodland mushrooms. Feeling in need for a break from the heat, we ventured to Alesso to find a spot to swim in the river. After taking a wrong turn, Dale took us up a rather precarious mountain road to, literally, nowhere (yes, I did sing Talking Heads' 'Road to Nowhere' on our ascent). Oops, our first wrong turn, one of many i'm sure. 20 minutes back down and we find the place for a very cold but refreshing Alpine mountain ...

Breakfast at 6:00 AM. Bus (driver: Ales) left at 8 AM.
A short drive into Slovenia's Julian Alps brought us to the azure jewel of Lake Bled. The lake is of mixed glacial and tectonic origins. It is 2,120 m (6,960 ft) long and 1,380 m (4,530 ft) wide, with a maximum depth of 29.5 m (97 ft). The lake is situated in a picturesque environment, surrounded ...
