Short stay in the Suite.

We made a short stop in Brezno, Slovakia. We were planning on staying at a campsite about 30 minutes outside the small town of Brezno. Now when you get 30 minutes OUTSIDE of a small town...your pretty much in the middle of nowhere! We drove down a country road up to the campsite. Well after driving around the chickens and the goat we realized the campsite was really just a guys backyard. We were tempted to stay for the goats sake ...

... there, so you can follow some of them and see the place from above, although it requires good physical condition and no fear of heights. Other tracks, like a yellow trail to Priečne sedlo (2,352 metres above sea level), are considered to be the most challenging and difficult in the Tatras, and a trail to Priečne sedlo is a one way route, so once you've reached the metal buckles and ladders there is ...

So as not to come out too biased, let me describe briefly the biggest drawback of Bukowina Tatrzańska, which is its location. It is situated on the hills, and thus no street is horizontal. If you want to go anywhere, you should take into account that at least one way you'll be climbing up. It's a problem if ...

Slovakia, Day 10 - 11

Only one full day here before pushing on to the High Tatras, which we spent visiting Spis Castle. You'd think we would have learned our lesson by now as far as Slovakian castles are concerned! Alfie Roose had nothing on Sam after we slogged up the hill to it from the village of Spisske Podhradie where the bus stops in blazing sunshine only to find the gate firmly closed (which means she got a bit stroppy for those of you who aren't relatives). Luckily we had ...

... given the cheap rates, privacy and tranquility, and the place we chose in Gerlachov was no exception. The only problem was that Gerlachov itself didn't have a lot to offer, and we were forced to head back down the highway some 10km to stock up on provisions in the city of Poprad. Figuring it would be the only chance we were going to get to see the place, we decided to go for a quick walk around the centre before grabbing some dinner. My guidebook said it ...

NYE 2007

Most of you in Australia reading this would have been well asleep and drunk by the time I celebrated NYE in the Upper Tatry in eastern Slovakia - that is probably why it was subdued - there must still be a magical connection between me and that time zone. Vik and I went

Slovakia for the day

We went for a day trip to Slovakia with a tour bus. We went to see a cave and drove around the countryside. The border patrol stamped our passports wrong (wrong month) and they took them back and crossed out the stamp with a big X. Its actually really funny.

Visiting old friends on the other side of Europe

... headed to bed. The next morning, I was given a map, and a "Meet me at Tesco at 2:30" and left to find my way around slovakia knowing not even how to say hello or thank you. But I loved it. I wanted that experience, and though it was hard to order lunch, or buy a bracelet I liked in Tesco, it was just an amazing couple of hours. I just walked along the walking only square and soaked in Eastern Europe. Which is much different feeling than western europe. the People seem different, the ...

... if they were negative. I write this text also as a reminder for myself. August 3 We were afraid that J.'s muscles would block. The day before, he had been complaining about muscle ache, and he had put so much tiger balm on his legs that there was a yellow cloud surrounding him. But this trip would not give him any trouble. We were on the impressing mountain pass Sedlo pod Ostrvou, after having climbed the Great Zigzag. I was very happy to be at that place, and so were A ...

... your traveling on your own. No such luck this time. I went to bed early and tried to catch up the sleep that I lost the night before. July 29 After the breakfast, I went to Vienna, the capital of Rakúsko (Austria). I have been there before, but I like this city very much. It has a brilliant metro system and a lively atmosphere. Moreover, it is situated only 60 km away from Bratislava, one hour by train. I returned in the beginning of the evening and ...
