It was hard to leave Poland I must say, but it feels good to keep moving forward. Enter stage left... Slovakia. A country only 20 years old as an independent nation, it has broken away from its 'big brother' the Czech Republic. Although Czech is far more desirable a place to travel in my opinion, Slovakia has a lot to offer for such a small place ( …

... everyone around me was eating the same thing, and they all looked happy with it. When in Rome, I suppose... Back outside and waiting for my bus to Kosice, Slovakia's second largest city located just under fifty miles from the boarder with Ukraine, I couldn't help but gawk at the castle rising majestically over the city. ... churches and the architecture of the cottages. Next, we climbed Gublowka Mountain, which took about 1 hour each way. The path was very slippery and it is a miracle that I didn't fall into the mud at some point. Nearly halfway up, on a grassy knoll, a man was herding sheep in a cloud of fog. I felt like I was in “The Sound of Music”, it was so bloody magical.

Finally on top the mountain, we saw ridiculously awesome ...

... but it cost us about $100 for these gondolas and lifts for 2. If we had to hike up and down all the way, it would take 3 days and nights and all of our annual energy so it's not a bad deal.

Long story short, Deanne paid for a lift down to the train because of her knee and I risked the hike down over rocky terrain. It was a good decision for both of us, because we both made it back safely, and I got to hike through more forest and didn't break ...
