... in Florence. It was great to see all of the castles, ruins, and other awesome structures and hilltop towns as crusied up the freeway. We turned off at Orvieti, which was a convenient location to get off the freeway and start hitting some backroads. We saw an amazing town perched up on a hilltop (it turned out to be Orvieti proper), and were excited to pass near it on our way into Tuscany (technically we were still in Umbria). ... tourist area. It was so light and tasty! Our last night we went to the popular restaurant in a cave. The food and wine were so good that when Karen took a bite of the chocolate desert, she couldn't help but laugh. Ridiculously delicious!!

From the wonderful people, the great food and meandering in Etruscan ruins, this city will always have a special place in our hearts.

... kind of beautiful Orvieto lace. It was a wonderful morning and we enjoyed eating the fruits of our labor!

Later in the afternoon, we headed out to the countryside and visited Victoria's house in the next town over. It is situated on a hill overlooking Orvieto to one side and the beautiful Umbrian hills and valleys to the other. We walked among the vineyards and enjoyed seeing the signs of spring along the road.

All of sudden the gigantic doors of the Duomo opened! We all moved over to see what was happening. As we looked inside and down the candle lit aisle we could see a procession coming towards us. ... Bolsena is a beautiful crater lake formed by the eruption of Mount Vulsini. Besides being a lovely recreation area, it is famous for the miracle that happened here in 1263 when a German priest was celebrating Holy Mass. Blood started to seep from the consecrated Host.
